I've never advertised on Craigslist, but I have bought several things from that and think it's a WONDERFUL way to advertise. My favorite thing I bought was my pet hedgehog, Tiggy. If you set the prices just a bit lower than others, you'll sell your stuff faster ... and since you just want the 'out of your space' I think that selling them on Craigslist is a good way to go.

I've put a couple things up for Craigslist in the last year. I've sold a majority of my items. All sales went through very easily. I got paid cash and flipped a lot of things that I purchased for good extra cash (cell phones, xbox360, and dell computers). In my opinion, Craigslist should be the first option if someone wants to get sell something. You get paid cash (assuming you are not receiving money by PayPal + have to ship) and know that the deal goes through. You can also sell anonymously by meeting up in a location like a supermarket or fast food restaurant (that's what I did on every transaction).

When listing on Craiglist, I suggest that you use a really good description, and I've seen that using pictures REALLY helps. Take actual pics of the product! Use a catchy title also, and do some research on the prices. I suggest you use websites like eBay just to see the value of your product. There are also sites like PriceGrabber.com and Froogle.com to do some price researches.

If it doesn't sell on Craiglist for two weeks, then I'd list things on eBay. I normally try 1 week on Craigslist at a somewhat higher price, then the 2nd week I'll lower the price down.

Goodluck!

It works great, but you need to make sure you also include pictures. It helps your ad to stand out. Also dont forget to include a phone number so people can contact you quicker.

You can also try posting your ad in other cities near you, if you can ship or you can ask them to pick up. However, you need to make sure your text for the 2nd ad is different from your 1st as Craigslist doesn't allow you to re-post same ads (usually changing text on your add will seem as two different ads).

Good luck!

I put my bass and amp on there and got 2 serious offers in less than 24 hours, and sold them in a few days. A person I referred to craigslist sold his dirtbike also in a short time. Before it he was struggling to find a local buyer.

Craigslist is good for sales, but not for personals. Every personal add with a good-looking pic is really an automated add with a link to another dating site. Disappointing!

It's best to include a picture if you want people to be interested. I found that the hardest part about craigslist is how hard it is to find someone nearby. Trying to coordinate the selling and picking up of an item when you live even half an hour apart is really frustrating. While craigslist is a good idea, I found it difficult to complete a sale.

I've never had much success. But the price is right, so give it a try. The clarinet you might try to sell through ebay and set a minimum. Sometimes there are recycled music instrument stores in larger cities; check for consignment possibilities.
