Without knowing where you are or who your target customers are, this is a bit general but here goes .....
Make sure you have posters in the window before you open telling everyone what you are going to be & when you open.
On the day of the opening, focus on raising awareness (make yourself noticed, carrot balloons, whatever !!!!) & give away freebies - everyone loves free stuff !!! I would also try to get passer by people than hope to get people in for a drink/snack as you're not a pub or a bar but you can send them on their way with a tantilising taster of how delicious your stuff is & hopefully they will be back the next day !!!!
I would create little mini gift bags with a sample snack or two & a mini smoothie ie a mouthfull (wheatgrass shot size - just to give people a taste) with a coupon/voucher for a free something when they buy a full price something & a full menu with prices, tel no & website details - this may be a bit of a loss leader approach but probably only a small outlay for the mini packaging & bags but well worth it to get people to try your stuff is a lot more effective than a half page Yellow Pages Ad !!!!

Hire a hip band - set up a sampling center giving out small samples and invite the local youth groups, churches, etc. to attend, as well as all the fitness clubs in the area - post your grand opening everywhere. The younger generation groups will bring in the parents and everyone loves something for free. On your advertising, offer free door prizes. Title your event something sensational : Your business name with a tagline: "smooth moves of summer" grand opening event or juicy tunes with a smoothie twist summer party....Good Luck! |

Cover the floor with sand and shells, fill it with plants and dress your staff in hawaiian shirts (I can get some to you dead cheap if you want) and fake tans. Play 'sea' inspired music and offer free nutricianal advice with every 3 smoothies bought. Get someone in who does foot or neck & shoulder massage while people drink and a henna tattoo artist. For the kids give them something to take home and remember you by, photocopy some colouring sheets with your details on and give free colouring pencils/crayons. Get helium filled balloons in all the colours of the sea preferably with your logo on (or more cheaply, attach a tag with your details on to each using decorative ribbon). Every hour have a nutrician quiz, the table with the most correct answers get a free (small) smoothie and a 10% discount voucher off your vitamins.
Offer a membership card (With every smoothie bought get one chop. After 15 chops get 1 small, free smoothie). |

In any new business it is important to involved children - especially with a juice bar. Offer free kids juices and have a clown handing out baloons with advertising on them. Kids are the ones that drag the parents in! After initial opening do lunchtime specials and send out a leaflet and offer to offices etc. All the best of luck. |

You need something tha says POW LOOK AT THIS NEW SHOP, EXPERIENCE MY PRODUCTS, BUY MY STUFF! Remember, this may force you to dig deep in those pockets, but in the long-run, it culd be a major benifit to your business.
You mentioned the word memorable - very important, especially if you have competitors! SO do something that will catch the attention of many! By posting leaflets for your opening saying: 'come to our grand opening at... for free testing of our healthy products', to be blunt, is unlikely to work. You need to have a central attraction. Something that is very rare, or has never really been done in your community. A music event - search for little-know bands in the area, but choose wisely - a 'crappy band' automatically makes the customer think 'crappy business'! Any sufficient performance, no matter how unrelated is a good way to draw a crowd and to bring your community together.
For a grand opening on a smaller, less expensive yet effective scale, your best bet is probably to give out samples of your products like there's no tomorrow! But when doing so, ensure that the consumer understands what your business is, where its found, why its such a good shop (mentioning healthy eating etc. due to its current social significance), otherwise, it's easy for them to see your samples as a free drink/product that theyll forget about the next day!
If you are willing to target those summer tourists, you'll need to use one of the above mentioned smaller-scale schemes - theyre not going to be there forever! Stand outside your shop dressed as a banana, an orange, WHATEVER! (Or if you would prefer to keep your dignity, get someone else to do it!) and give out your smoothies, and in the same hand, pass over a flyer/leaflet advertising and informing about the shop.
SO GET OUT THERE! POSTERS! LEAFLETS! WORD OF MOUTH! GET YOUR SHOP KNOWN!
Start now! - the quicker you start the more time you'll have.
I can tell by the enthusiasm in your question that you are very idealistic and have a good idea as to what you want. Get an image of your event, advertising or promotion in your mind, no matter how bizarre, costly and unrealistic it may sound, at first, do not limit your ideas. Then think to yourself 'will this be possible?', narrowing down your idea to something that may not be what you first dreamt of, but that may have a sufficient effect in bringing in them customers and making them say 'ooh, i want one of them smoothies/products again!'

Strictly no freebies or discounts. That way you will only undermine your products as well as your customers. Customer wants value and customer wants quality. If you give discounts, you are going to cut corners some where. Instead use this (not discounting) as your USP. Issue lot of information on benefits of healthy living to local media (Press, radio,TV, Cable etc.) Organise Sports personality for opening. Sponser free health camps around your locality. |

any time when you open a new buisness you want to have something that can appeal to everyone, something they can relate to. You dont want to have every thing free because of course profit goes down the drain. i think you have an awsome healthy idea that many people in todays world are looking for. you should offer a type of freqent buyer program also. but for your grand opening most definatly try to appeal to them as a local buisness and advertise around the comunity. as for an event im not sure my wife is the event planner, im just the buisness guy. I hope that works out for you, its a GREAT idea just make it more than idea and you will be fine. |
