What about an auction? It takes some organising but they're relatively easy to do when you've got the prizes...and you can raise a lot of money.
Spend a few days ringing around and visiting local businesses. Scrounge for prizes. Get anything and everything! For example, If you have a local baker, get them to donate a birthday cake which will be decorated to the winner's requirements, if you have a local computer company see if you can get them to donate something (even if its small!), literally walk up and down your high street and pester *everybody*. The last time I did this we managed to scrounge almost £3000 worth of prizes in one day!
Then on the night advertise the donators by bigging them up when you're "selling" the prizes. If you have time, but a little brochure together for the people who will attend stating the prizes that are going to be auctioned and who donated them - its all advertising for the local companies and you'll be surprised what they'll do for a little advertising!!
If you want to make it special, see if you can hound a local catering firm into putting on a dinner for you for cheap or preferably free. Get a local pub to sell the drinks for you, but adding a little on top for the charity.
In a nutshell, speaking as someone who runs his own business and has done this sort of stuff before, people will do *anything* for advertising.

Have a charity casino night or a charity racing night.
Everyone pays a certain amount to come to the do.
You hire the casino company, tons out there just look up "fun casino night hire" or similar. They come in and run the entertainment for you - you give them their fee from the money people have paid for tickets (they may reduce or waive the fee if you tell them its for charideeee).
People get a wodge of "funny money" to gamble with during the evening and pretend they are James Bond or ***** Galore or whoever! Then at the end of the night a few people get a prize to take home - bottle of wine, box of chocs etc. The people with the most fun money will at the end will be the winners usually, although if you had a theme there could be prizes for best costumes etc.
Also during the night have a raffle and sell tickets to people over the course of the evening leading upto the draw.
Try and get as many prizes as you can donated by local business - they always like to stick their hands in their pockets for a bit of free publicity!
Try and rope in as many friends, colleagues, relatives to help you out in the setting up, selling raffle tickets, and cleaning up activities!!
A DJ is always a good idea - as is finger food - the local venue may be able to help, yellow pages and the internet are good sources of info and again - friends and relatives make excellent waitrers and waitresses!
An alternative could be to have a sit down dinner, done by an outside catering company.
If you can get a few big prizes donated you could hold a charity auction as part of the evenings entertainment!
The main thing is to maximise the fun that people have at the event, more alcohol generally means more money forked over on the night - if you want to know more drop me an email and we can chat!! |

i often go to charity events and usually there are auctions for everything from bikes to holidays and the odd person !!.These are usually balls where everyone pays for their table and there is a meal and entertainment put on. After dinner you write your name and table number on a £ 10 or £20 note, all of which are put in a hat and drawn for a prize usually a weekend break or flights to a european city or a spa break. You could ask local businesses for generous donations and in turn you can advertise them on the nite. restaurants would be happy to donate food vouchers and hotels maybe an overnight stay. Ask your local fire station to donate a guided tour or topless car wash, women would part with thier cash for that ! like all things if you dont ask you dont get ! So get out there, present your cause and good luck ! |

This top ten party planning guide will help any host in preparing for a perfect party.
1. Budget. Decide how much you are willing to spend on a one-time event and stick to it!
2. Theme. Decide on the unifying element of the party. Themes bring focus and added excitement.
It can be as simple as color themes to as elaborate as a Victorian Era theme for a costume party.
3. Time and Date. Finalize the time and date of the party.
Choose a day and hour that is convenient for the majority of the invited guests so that they will be encouraged to show up.

i work alot with charities. the frist questions I would have for you is are their actually going to be children present? if so I would suggest an old-fashioned carnival. kids and parents alikewill find it amusing. think cake walk, dunk tank, pop a balloon. If it's just for adults, i have 2 rec's. One: a Monaco Casino night. Those are always fun. Another is a medical act such as the Dueling Divas. Price tickets extra high, and the make sure that after the program, you also offer a reception, where gusts can mingle, and meet the performers. check with your local philharmonic, orchestra,...etc. Good Luck!! |
