I would, though that's fairly expensive. There are other steps you can take first that will be cheaper.
If you're a one-man gang, start small. Print flyers and target specific neighborhoods. Find older homes that are more likely to A.) have stuff that needs fixing, and B.) have the money to pay for a handyman. Mail is preferable, but drop the information door-to-door if your budget precludes mailing.
Offer to write a guest column for the local newspaper, and/or be a regular contributor to some type of home segment on a local TV or radio station. They're always looking for regular, local content. |

Any type of advertising is good for building a client base! I would also find local ads like craigslist.org (click on your state, nearest city, and then select the post you want to show) to advertise your services for free. Since you are a handyman- I am assuming your client base will be mostly homeowners- so advertising in local newspapers is important too- think of anyplace where homeowners go to and see if you can post a sign or leave a business card. Once you find your target customer base it will come naturally where to advertise. Yellow pages is a good start. |

your stuck with a 12 month contract.
I think you have better luck joining your local chamber. I would make sure you were licensed before I hired you. |

Yes that is a great idea it might take a little time as they only bring out yellow pages once a year. Why not advertise in you local shop or in your local church magazine. Of course the best advertising is through your customers word of mouth. Do a good job and you will soon have more customers than you can handle. Best of Luck with your new business |

You can advertise in Yellow pages, however, a website is key these days. Most people don't even remember where the yellow pages are in their house anymore.
Get a good website, with a solid place in the search engines and it'll help alot. |

I think you would get more calls if you took business cards around and attach them with a magnet to peoples mailboxes so they may later stick it to their refrigerator. I have seen this done with housecleaning ads and I used it! hope things work out for you. |
