I am desperate for someone to PLEASE tell me the secret to making money on eBay. I am not talking any scams.?

I'm not trying to rip anyone off or looking for a get rich quick scheme. I'm just trying to make $ from home and the easiest way to do that is on eBay. Like buying a huge lot from a wholesaler & then reselling it for a few bucks per item (like for example bath and body works soap). When I look up wholesalers they always want me to spend $ not for the product but just to find out where to get the product. I am a single mother of a 4 yr. old, a devout Christian, a full time student (even at 35) as I went back to school to be able to offer a better life for me & my son. I work part time as a bookkeeper and I tithe what money I do make. I have been single for 5 yrs now, but my son is my motivation and God is my strength. I never ask anyone for anything. I'm a survivor of so much & I count my blessings where they lie. But I'm always barely keeping my head above water & I just wish, that someone would help me. Not even help me, just point me in the right direction so I can help myself.

ebay is not a gold mine and it's hard work getting going, if you are trying to do a volume business, you need capital and you need to take risks. doesn't sound like you should do either of those things.

bath & body works and other retailers are not good sources of product, most retail is not a good source of product, but there are exceptions.

you need products that are new and name brand to attract buyers. you need clear and consistent policies, you need clear and detailed photos. remember always: "the customer is always right" (even if they are wrong and trying to rip you off (which happens more than you would like to believe).

so start off small, build some capital and a good reputation as a seller. research the market and what is selling, stuff that is hard to find or limited edition. you can't make any money by buying bulk lots off of ebay. if the profit were so amazing, they wouldn't be selling "lots" they would be selling each and every item individually to realize the greater profit.

consider places like Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Ross, where you can find name brand stuff when it's on clearance. before you buy an item, research on ebay whether it's a popular product and the average selling price. this is easy to do, type in the advanced search field and check off the "completed listings" box. it will come up with all the sales and auctions that have completed for the same item you are considering selling. if you find out that your item is selling for about the same price as what you have to buy it for (even on clearance) you aren't going to make much money at all.

for items that are popular, go to the library and check magazines for the hottest new products, what's trendy now, what's in big demand. check with parents and youth for the hottest name brands and the "must have" items.

research shipping rates. get cheap or free shipping materials. first class mail can be cheaper than priority mail if it's less than a pound package. fedex is often cheaper than priority mail or ups for bulky heavy items.

start off slow and then build up momentum. avoid stuff like jewelry. if you sell clothing, be meticulous about all the measurements, so if the item does not fit, it's not your fault or responsibility. avoid books, they are hard to unload and ship. avoid most electronics cause they get outdated and price drops so quickly.

and the most important tip: unless it's the Christmas season (from November 1st through December 31st) you will likely have very poor sales. So see if you can save all your auctions until the holidays, and you make 90% of your money during that season, and 10% the rest of the year. (most retailers make 70% of all sales during holidays, ebay is no different).

you can't sell bath & body works cause they have an online site that has the same discounts as the stores, plus the stuff is heavy to ship.

Allegory's response is right on. It's very tough to make any reasonable profit using an auction site such as Ebay. You are better off using a straight-forward sale for a specific price site such as Craigslist.com which is truly a freebie way of offering a product for sale. And it's a strictly cash and carry transactional site whereby someone sends you a personal check which you clear before actual delivery of the product to the customer.

i don't know the answer to this but maybe you should try investing in the stock market. well you shoudn't do this right now though because the whole stock market is going down, but when it goes back up, then that will be a good idea. :)

As you have found out ... making money on eBay is not "the easiest way to do that". There's a whole scamming industry out there making money off people like you.

Finding a local non-internet job that pays you in real cash is the best thing to do. You already have bookkeeping skills ... so how about contacting small businesses in your area and offering to do enter their reciepts into their accounting software for them? They bring over the reciepts, and you hand back the receipts and a spreadsheet of data they can feed to their accounting program. This could be done at home - once a week or once a month depending on the size of the business.

okay be sure when someone closes the bid on an iteam get to imediatly, if you do and they're satisfied they'll send you good feedback, and when other people see the good feedback they'll be more likely to buy whatever it is your selling because they'll know they're not gonna be ripped off :)

I have family and friends who all do eBay as a job. Its a very time consuming job and the better you get the better you are to find great sales and know the right items that sell on eBay.
I would certainly try looking into certain things such as pictures and other items.
If you live in a good city that has a lot of thrift stores and yard sales then you are in the good.
Just check out the stores and yard sales. Find things that people would want to buy.
Also when buying you have to be persistent and have confidence when you talk someone down in prices.
I bought socks that sell for $5 ea down to $3 at a Zumiez store.
But just buy things that people would like to buy.
If you get your hands on a cheap still good condition atari console. Some people will be willing to pay close to high dollar for something like that.

Check websites like craigslist and your local shopper, as well as thrift stores and yard sales.

Be humble and trust in the lord because he will bless you and your family.

Some people do something called drop shipping. They accept payment for an item they do not have on hand, order and pay for that item and have it sent to the winner of the auction. The positive of this is that there's no real up front out of pocket expense. The downside to this is that if the product you need to order is out of stock, you'll have to cancel the winning bid and tick off the winner...or sometimes there's a 1-2 week wait time which will also tick off the winner.

Ebay is becoming increasingly difficult a market to be profitable for a smaller seller as they prefer "powersellers" over people just looking to make a hundred bucks a week or so to supplement income. Fees are pretty ridiculous once you pay listing, final value, and paypal their cut. There are times when I lost money on an item I sold because of this.

Watch Niches - Create or find a product for that popular niche, sell it ----- one example I recall is the Laser Beam Pointers, when that came out, I jumped on a few dozen and they sold like hotcakes, another one is (and you can beleive me or not) is a software product I CREATED called Detective Software - a bunch of tools to find people, it sold like hotckaes on eBay, then copy cats came out.... so basically, research niches, find products and maybe go to www.salehoo.com and try them.....

Or go to yard sales and buy stuff that's unusual or collectors

But making money on EBay is a long process over years as a friend of mine has built her eBay business up over years,

"I get junk E-mail all the time, and really did not think it was going to work", the boy continues.

Within the first few days of sending out the E-mail,
the Post Office Box that his parents had gotten him for his video-game magazine subscriptions began to fill up
not with magazines, but envelopes containing $5 bills.

This simple note made the letter lawful because he was exchanging a service (A Report on how-to do something) for a five-dollar fee.

It's true. The boy legitimately earned $71,000.
