Here's my emergency situation remedy for that, because I have been there.
Make repaying the payday loans your first priority, because those places have the worst interest rate and the most ruthless collection methods. Then resolve not to borrow from them again.
Then cut up any credit cards you have and throw them away.
Then do a budget listing all income and the dates it comes in, all expenses, amounts and dates due. Cut out all unnecessary expenses - entertainment, clothing, fast food, convenience stores, anything you enjoy, basically.
Look at your utility bills. Could your cable or phone service be downgraded to save money? Check out what you are paying for and see if any of that can be cut out. Trim the fat.
Live on this budget, ignoring all collection notices, for a few months, until you have some breathing room - enough left over each month to make a payment to creditors.
Then contact a debt consolidation company so that all of your debts can be organized into one payment, and in some cases they can knock the interest down or off. This could save you a lot of money and you only have one payment to keep track of.
Make the payment each month religiously until you are debt-free, and then do not incur any further debt. No payday loans, no credit cards, no rent-to-own, don't finance anything. Start saving up for the things you want and need and working these purchases into your budget. If it isn't in the budget, don't buy it. |

If you are on the financial precipice you need help. Bankruptcy should be your last resort but there are ways to avoid it if you look in the right place. Debt settlement might be an answer.

I am sort of in the same boat. It takes a budget that you can live with - not a crazy one that is too out of control for you to be able to live with. Then it also takes time - it took time to get into debt - allow for the process to work itself thru and just stick to your new financial goals. The main thing is to not beat yourself up about it - it can happen to anyone :) |
