what business do you want to start. best ways is word of mouth and fliers, news paper ads. to make what your business is about known is through word of mouth. people will want you to come back if you are good at what you do. and charge fair prices. or what ever it is you are planning on doing with out know the base of your business it is hard to come up with a way to get your target. |

First off it depends on what type of business you are getting into. I am assuming it is some sort of home improvement/construction building company. Your target market middle class neighborhoods that are 10 years old would probably be younger families. I am not well studied on neighborhoods but younger families I would assume would be more neighborhood involved. All working together to make their "new community" a strong one.
If you have a specific area that you are looking at originally you need to get involved in their community events. Block Parties, fund raising events, neighborhood parties etc. Show up at these events and talk yourself up. Bring things to offer to people like free giveaways and such so you are more welcomed.
You can also think about becoming a mediator for the neighborhood, possibly offering fund raising at a local park, be the creative or the neighborhood ambassador. Get things rolling in the community. Even though you do not live there, start offering services and such so you become part of the community.
Check out local establishments like restaurants, stores and salons and give them materials that they can hand out, or become involved with them.
When starting up it is important to become part of their community. Give as much as you can so you become part of their new community. Once you become established you can possibly hold an annual event(s) to maintain a presence in the neighborhood.
Again, I do not know your company or how big your market is regionally, so this strategy will be more beneficial if you are looking at specific areas.
If you are planning on being national, start in a specific region. Offer samples of your product to consumers and have them try them out, and get feedback.
WOM (word of mouth) is huge in communities, so get a good name for yourself, and get talked about. |

Hi,
I have a lot of experience marketing small companies online (I have 3 companies). One of the best ways is to sign up at business directories and protals. These are basically listings of businesses (simliar to the phone book). The advantage is that these portals usually get a lot of traffic and they're ranked high on Google because of all the quality links they contain.
My favorite portal is called Directory Exclusive. I signed up a few weeks ago because they're giving a away a free business card holder when a person enter's their company info. I received it in the mail 3 days ago =)
