I am thinking of moving to another state, how would you go about finding a new home?

I almost moved out of state. I went online and searched for Realtors in the city and state I was interested in, viewed homes I was interested online, made a list, contacted Realtor when I would be in area so they would be prepared to show me those or simular homes in destination area and price range.

Go online and read the city's local newspapers, especialy if there is a local "alternative" newspaper. Those usually have the best housing ads. Or check your local library for free copies of out-of-town papers.

Why would anyone move to another state? Why state do you have in mind? Decide on one, then go online to check the realestate market and apartment guide for that state.

I personally would rent first so I have a good idea of what neighborhood I wanted to buy a home. It's important to really get to know an area before making an important commitment. All to often, I see people move into neighborhoods that aren't right for them because they don't know the area. If you can find a short term rental properly -- like 6 months -- that should give you enough time to get a feel for an area.

look em up at www.realtor.com
this is the biggest database of houses.

I just moved out of state. I used www.homegain.com
Make sure you have a good pop-up blocker, this sike has a pop-up everytime you open it. You can search the MLS for any state in the country (and maybe Canada). You can e-mail the realtor who has the listing. Saved me a lot of long distance phone calls. Happy house hunting!

Depends on where in the new state your moving. I'd use a local realtor in that area. You can find one online pretty easily. If you have friends in the new area, they would probably be able to suggest a good one as well.

phred_the_red
Well, you could look for internet sites such as craigslist.com, but it is really better to see the area and get a feel for which neighborhoods you would like. IF you don't take a trip to the area first you might end up living in a home or area you hate.

Go to a Realtor in your home town like re-max or century 21 and ask them if they are working with other Realtors in the state you want to live they can find one for you most of the time . Make sure you interview them and it also may involve couple trips to look at the properties and meet your new Realtor.
