Is it required? No. Should you consider it? Yes. If you have a product that is unique and patentable, and you are considering manufacturing and selling this product, then you should consider a patent. This will protect your rights to develop and market the product. It will also protect you from competitors that might have more capital, better connections or an established sales channel from making it to market first. It's worth researching. |

To protect your idea ,yes you shoud have it patented . Without the patent ,once out on the market your design or idea would be open game for copy cats . |

Yes because without a patent, people will be able to copy your idea and sell it for nothing. Patenting your idea will keep it safe while you market it all you want. If you have a patent, if someone takes your idea, they will have to pay you in order to pay for the idea and pay to use it. If someone uses UR idea and U don't patent it, it's their idea too, nuthing you can do. Patent it for sure! |

You should get a design patent If what you want to protect is just a design. There are 3 types of patents. 1. Utility patents: for mechanical use 2. Design patents for original designs that have no mechanical function. 3. Plant patents: a new species of plant. Either way to be patentable it must be original and non obviouse. Patents are very expensive, but you can get a provisional patent for a couple of hundred dollars. Read all about it at nolo.com. |

It depends. You either need to copyright or patent it though. Go to www.copyright.gov for copyright info and http://www.uspto.gov/ for patents. Unfortunately, you probably need a patent atty if you have to patent.
Getting into production will be the next prob and you will need to find -hopefully, a smaller company that will work with you and don't neglect overseas either as sometimes they are the cheapest.. I would search the internet for contract production etc.
