I have a very successful website and i would like to place ads on it to make revenue. What google adsense alternitive can i use to do so that doesn't require a social security number or a huge amount of page views a day (like 500000). By the way, my site has no adult content. DO NOT try to convince me to use my social security number on the internet, because let's just say i've had a bad experiance before.
I have tried many companies that were scams such as Bidertiser and Oxado. And Google Adsense and Yahoo Publishers and the rest of the biggies require social security numbers! Please help me before i completly give up! |

As stated by others, advertising networks (both banner and contextual) require your SSN because of tax considerations. They report to IRS the income they paid to their publishers, and without that number, they can't report it to Uncle Sam. Even the big affiliate programs such as Commission Junction and the Amazon Associate Program will ask for your SSN
If you don't want your SSN number, you can:
- Get a Tax ID from the IRS and give that EIN instead of your SSN. You can find all information on how to get an EIN from the IRS website http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=102767,00.html
- Do not join ad networks from contextual networks such as Google Adsense to banner ad networks such as Tribal Fusion because all will require your SSN (unless you get yourself an EIN). Sell your own ads yourself. Get PhpAdsnew http://www.phpadsnew.com to serve your banners (it is a great free tool) and provide real-time statistics to your advertisers. Prepare your media kit and put a link prominently on your site that people can advertise with you. Plan out the spaces that you will sell -- e.g. banner ads, leaderboards, rectangles, text ads, skys, etc.
Otherwise, if you get your EIN you can try to apply to the following:

They require either your SS# or your EIN# as for 1099 forms for the end of the year. Without this, they can't claim it for an expense. |

Then you may be stuck advertising for gambling websites. Then tend not to ask many questions. Also have you considered call people on the phone? Setup the account over the phone, or just use your phone number for your SSN? |

Anyone who is planning on acually paying you money will need your social security number or your tax ID . . . If they don't need it. . . then you should not use them because they are more than likely going to stiff you. . . . You have to pay taxes, so you have to have a tax number. You can put in a bunch of random numbers. . . . but thats tax fraud and the IRS will not be forgiving when they catch you. . . . |

They are probably asking for your social security number because they will be required to issue you a 1099 for what they pay you, and will need it for that. Surely they aren't going to actually put your social security number on a website for all to see! ?????? |

Judy hit it on the nose as to why they ask for your SS#. Since you don't want to use it, then your best alternative is to is to register your business and get an Employer Identification Number. It too is 9 digits and can used in place of your personal SS#.
Contanct your state's department of Revenue to find out where you need to go to do this.
