I have been a stay at home mom for 20 years. how can i get back into the work force with such a big gap?

Stay at home. Working a home based business can be one of the smartest things you can do. A lot of people who work from home though, are making money, but its not enough to live on. Try starting out with your own online startups. For example, I just started blogging and I am finding many opportunities where you can get paid up to $5 per post on a blog. You can write about any topic that interests you and the jobs come to you. Most blogging services do not cost anything to start up.

Another option is to volunteer. You can add volunteer work to your resume and it will highlight your job skills to a prospective employer.

Don't know where you live, but in most larger cities there are resource centers for women that will help a woman who has not worked for a long time to hone skills that she will need in today's workplace. In my town, it's called The Women's Resource Center. I know it goes by that same name in other cities, so, you may want to look that name up on the internet to see if one is in your town. If you are 55 or older, AARP has senior employment training and placement agencies all across the country. You can find them in the phone book. Or go online to the AARP website. Try calling your local charitable organizations. If they can't help you, often they have phone numbers to refer you to. Most community night schools have computer courses and other types of courses at very low cost. There are plenty of resources. Just start, and you will be surprised how many more you will be referred to. Good luck. Oh- and not Wal-Mart. They do not have a good reputation as an employer. But, you can google best places to work for seniors or women, etc. You will get a list of company names that have a good employer reputation.

I am an affiliate for a web hosting & design company. We're geared towards taking websites into local businesses. Since more people are buying online, it gives them the opportunity to take advantage of that market. I make about 5-8 sales per week. I cant give you exact commission but my average per week is about $400. On a bad week it could be $200.

Don't. Work from home like I did.

Iâ€™m a stay at home mom of two little girls a 1 year old and a 3 year old. I work about 15-18 hours per week for a National Medical Benefits Company. I have been with the company for 6 months and am now making over $2500 a month! In your first month, depending on how many hours you can work I have seen people make anywhere from $500-$2000. Also now of course being with them I get the benefits for free and I saved over $150 on my last visit to the dentist! Thatâ€™s just a beautiful perk! : - )

When I first started I just felt very safe with themâ€¦. that and my friend was already making so much money with them! But at this point I feel a sense of security financially that our family has never had before. That plus LOVING what you do? What could be better?

P.S. If you are looking for a JOB there should be NO cost and I would NEVER pay or encourage anyone to pay money to work FOR someone else. This is a business, an inexpensive home business of your own, where you are your own boss. Of course it does cost some money to start any home business but that does NOT mean you should pay $500 or even $1000 to start a home business. Our start up costs are less then $100 bucks and we get SO much for that. Each month we cover only a very small portion of what it really costs to run our businesses, the company pays the rest for us. Including all of our web sites, training, materials, 401k, direct deposit, medical benefits and more. This company basically makes it possible for you to own your own home business and they foot almost 100% of the bill!!! Without them I never would have been able to afford my own business!

It will not be easy, but it is possible. You need to first decide what to do. Working from home is certainly an option, but you might enjoy more working outside of the home. You will more likely receive benefits and the pay will be more reliable. Here are some tips:

- First work on building your resume. I suggest a functional resume which focuses on your skills and abilities. As a stay-at-home mom I'm sure you've built many through raising your kids and also volunteering.
- Look for local resources that help moms returning to work. www.womenwork.org is a good source to learn about programs that are available.
- Approach your search with confidence! You know you have a lot to offer a company. Often your own insecurities will cause you to blow an interview.
