I have been advertising using signs on the road lately with good response, what are some other good ways?

For my computer business I have been advertising using signs on the side of the road, does anyone have any other recommendations for getting computer repair business using other methods of advertising? I don't have too much money but any ideas would be appreciated. I am currently A+ certified and work for geek squad on weekends.

Some good wording for the advertising would be helpful too. Right now i just put "COMPUTER REPAIR" and my number. Thanks!!

Print up business cards and leave them on the table at restarants,,,leave a bunch in the local post office, leave them everywhere you can think of...I do this and it works for me!

Stick with those signs if you have a good response. Try saying "I FIX YOUR COMPUTER" and your phone number or "COMPUTER ILL? Call " your phone number.

consider direct mail postcards, the benefit of using direct mail postcards is you don't have to worry that they'll get tossed in the trash without being read. they are already opened. additionally, postcards are less expensive than other types of direct mail thereby saving on your IT marketing budget.

Try printing some flyers from your pc and put them on windsheilds of vehicles at you local grocery stores or mall parking lots.
Print your own business cards and randomly give them away or post them on community bulletin boards at stores, etc.
Make your own wood sign with a stake attached and put it in your yard or at a busy intersection.

make those phone # or website things that u rip off of a sheet of paper.

Try your local weekly advertising publication. They usually have a page dedicated for "Services". It is usually a set price for a 2 x 2 ad.

Make up a small flier and put it on the cork boards of any local college or technical schools. Some grocery stores have cork board outside of them, too. You might ask at the local library if they would mind putting a stack of them in their computer lab. Lots of people go to the library to use the computer when theirs if on the fritz. If any little restaurants in your area use those cheap paper placemats with the little ads on them, ask for the name and number of the person who sells them these. Call and get an ad spot. These are really cheap. If there are any very large churches in your area with Sunday bulletins that have ads in them, these are cheap, too. Sometimes around $50 for a whole year of ads. If you take your flier around to schools and ask in the office if they'll put one in the teacher's lounge, they are usually very receptive to this. Another great way for the free exposure is to watch your paper for any fundraising efforts in the community. When you see good ones that will draw large crowds, call and donate a "gift certificate" to the cause. This gets you listed on any advertising they do, gets the name of your business mentioned when they give the door prizes, and it gets at least one new customer exposed to your work. Satisfied customers give referrals (the best advertising is word-of-mouth) so be sure you give this customer as good a service as if they paid top dollar. You might also very selectively volunteer your services on a limited basis to a group or groups that you know may not be able to pay to have the work done, or who would need to try to save money. For instance, if you stop in your local chamber of commerce and tell them you are small and can't advertise but do certified, quality work and you offer to do any computer work they need in exchange for referrals to their member businesses, you could really strike it big. They may want you to join the chamber, but if so, it will be money well spent if it can get you into a deal like that. Maybe you can even get free listing in their newsletters for it, or get a photo and cutlines in the local newspaper that you have generously donated your services to help out the local chamber. If you haven't done a press release about your business to all the local papers, get on that right away. It's free and will be included in the business section of your paper, drawing a lot of attention in the community.
