If you type the exact URL into Google search and the site doesn't come up it means it's not been indexed (or spotted) by Google.
Googlebot (the web robot) searches the internet constantly looking at web sites and this takes about 12 weeeks or so each cycle.
You can submit your site to the Googlebot (search around Google to find out how) but this doesn't mean that it will get indexed straight away - you are basically asking Googlebot if it will look at your site first. |

You need to get other websites to link to your website. The more links other people have on their sites, the better your search engine rating with Google and the other companies like Yahoo and MSN. |

Hi there, Google states that it can take up to 6 months for a site to be indexed on google, but it normally takes a week, to index after you have submitted it,
I set up my newest site last week http://www.GameBidder.co.uk and its already in google, put your link anywhere you can as this means google with see it more and index your site more often giving you a better link |

Popular websites are popular because they contain content (text, videos etc.) that people want to read or watch.
You can determine this by doing keyword research (think of it as market research) using keyword tools like Wordtracker.com (they have a free 7-day trial now :-) )
And then you need to optimise your web pages - not difficult.
And then you need to get people to link to your site. It's better for your site if the linking website is relevant to the keywords your site is about and if it can already be found on Google.
If you've created a fantastic website - e.g. YouTube.com - then getting people to link to your site is easy. If you've created yet another 'make money online' website with tired information you're going to really struggle.
So look at your site. Is it really, really good? Are you proud of it? Or is it just ordinary. (Ordinary is not good enough, so make it really, really good.)
Website promotion is not difficult if you've got a fab site. Really. And it's not that hard to make a fab site. Really. |

Never stick to one way of advertising, I suggest sites like:
1] http://www.sellit-right.com – advertise services and products, your eBay listings, Amazon etc, add biz, url, blog, etc the list goes on! You can earn there too. It’s easy and rewarding. I suggest joining as others have done.
2] Make use of web directories too.
Create a blog, allow comments and add url.
Contact them direct to advertise any banners you may have. |

There are a number of ways you can promote your site. The most effective ones are:
1. Website Optimisation - This focuses on increasing your natural search engine position (left hand side of Google, Yahoo, etc) for when a user searches for specific terms. Generally 75% of search engine users find what they are looking for on the left hand side as opposed to the PPC links on the right.
However, it can take anywhere from 3-12 months before you are found on the 1st page for your targeted terms so this is worth keeping in mind.
Despite this it is by far the most effective method of online advertising.
2. PPC Campaigns - This is a pay-per-click method of advertising where you inform the search engines how much you are willing to pay to receive a visitor. Overall, this is an effective way to receive instant visitors into your site, however it can be quite costly if you don't put a cap on your budget.
3. Link Building - Another great way to increase your online visibility is through link building. You want to ensure that the links to gain into your site are industry relevant (but not competitors) and also contain a good Google PageRank. The higher the PageRank of the sites that link into yours, the higher your own PR will become.
It is well known that Google puts a lot of importance onto the PR of a website, therefore if you have a good PageRank score then you may well find yourself climbing up the search engine positions. |

There are many ways you can promote your website on the internet. Of course, Google, Yahoo and MSN (Live) are the most popular ones.
There may be many reasons why your site isn't being indexed.
1. Your site has a robots.txt file in the root directory that forbids search engine crawlers. See if http://www.[yourdomain].com/robots.txt exists.
2. Depending on how long ago you have submitted your website, the crawling process may take a few days. However, you could use the Google Webmasters Tool to help speed things up by creating a sitemap.xml (do some search on Google). - This also help you submit multiple pages.
3. Don't rely on just Google, submit to all search engines, directories, blogs, website promotion sites - anything you can think of - It'll quite possibly help your page ranking in the long run.
