I have web business. I get alot of inquiries but hardly anyone resonds back - why?
I have an online business that people pay $35 a month to join and they get a free website and I promote their business. I have an online form that people fill out if they want to join. I respond back to them about how to join but then never hear from them again. What could I be doing wrong? Some of these people sound very interested and then I never hear from them again?

The best people to ask are the people that are leaving your site.

Create an exit survey that offers the interested party an opportunity to disclose their feelings about your product offering anonymously. Gather as much market research from your actual leads and then reassess your strategy.

No one will know better than the potential customers themselves, why they are not interested.

Someone is doing it cheaper and better. Did you do your due diligence? What is the competition doing better than you>? You apparently have an attractive site, as it is generating the inqueries. But then, you can't seal the deal.
Go out to those inqueries with a survey and ask. Expect only 10% of those to respond.

Hi,

There are many ways to market a small business on the web. You can buy banner ads, text links, or use PPC. However, the best way is to get listed in a bunch of portals. Portals and directories are like phone books, and they often provide a lot of traffic because they tend to rank high on Google.

This portal is giving away a free business card holder for lising your business (I got mine a few days ago in the mail). If you want to know about some other portals, just let me know.

Andrea, if you send me a link to your site, I may be able to answer your question more intelligently.

As the previous poster stated, you obviously have an attractive product/service to offer, but you are unable to close the deal. There could be several reasons for this:

- your pricing is not competitive
- you are not explaining the value of your service
- you are not discovering "the bones in the throat." (That is, your prospects have a reason for completing your form, what you may not be asking them, however, is how they intend to use your service. Perhaps you need to provide a more customized reply to each applicant.)
- you are not being proactive in getting back to your prospects while the iron is still hot. It sounds like you are just accepting their silence as either their lack of interest or failure on your part.

If you wish to compete successfully against other sites offering similar services - or services which APPEAR to be similar, you need to determine why you offer a better value for the money. Personally, $35 a month does not sound unreasonable, so you may not be communicating your benefits and distinctions as clearly as you think you are.

Please send me a link. I'm curious.

Thanks.

Do you get phone numbers? Do you call them?

Stop trying to shortcut the best way to close a deal. If you want to sell this then sell it.

35 a month/ 420 a year isn't a great deal unless you can explain to them why.

NOBODY is going to sit and read some lengthy spun email and then just send money in.

I should say MOST. There's always one.

sounds like magnetic sponsoring, there is so many people out there doing the same thing it really hard to get customers,
but keep on trying, and study up on marketing techniques and keep words, and I hope it works out for you.....

P.S. most people look at this site as being scams

Well, there are a lot of people that think running a web business will be easy and hardly any work and very lucrative. Eventually they find out they're wrong. Those may be the people you're getting.

An alternative explanation is that they decide your service isn't worth $35/month.
