There are a few things that you can use to get rid of the glue tha tis left behind.
The first is a simple ice cube. you put it on the glue or the tag that you want to take off and it will harden the adhesive that holds it on, making it easy to crack or peel off.
If that doesn't work you can use freon. The easiest way to come by this is canned air. it sounds dumb but if its a material that will not be harmed.. you can turn canned air over and press the button. A bunch of freezing cold freon will come out (be sure not to touch the mist). Spray it directly onto the tag you need to come off and the glue will completely freeze instantly.
There is also a product that uses freon that is made to remove gum from rugs and bowling alley approaches. I am not sure what it is called but I'm sure that you can find it online.

try baby oil to remove the sticky residue. If that doesn't work use rubbing alcohol.
