King | I need to write a radio ad? |
I need to write a 30 second radio ad for my company that has to conform to the theme of my advertising campaign. My theme is flexibility, and the company/product that the commercial has to be for is Visa. I have been trying to think of something all weekend and i've asked so many people, please help me out, I have never even heard a radio ad for a credit card... and i've only really heard about 3 radio commercials, which of them, I don't remember one.
This is for Graphic Design... don't ask how it's related, only my teacher can make the connection between the two.

Ummm this is high school, i don't pay tuition and I don't think you understand, our teacher gives us almost no direction, and btw, i'm not taking this class by choice. |

Julee: Give me a break! The kid asked for some help. At least that means the kid is in school and interested enough to do an assignment. If he needs a little help give it to him. It's called encouragement. If he wanted to rip off a radio commercial all he would have to do is turn on a radio, don't you think? He was asking for help with the creative spark. If you run an agency as you claim, you can't tell me you've never worked with others in the creative process. I spent years writing radio copy and I enjoy it. I know that it is not for everyone. I hope your little rant hasn't discouraged this kid. I love the part where he says he isn't going to use my idea verbatim. That is GREAT! Exactly as I had hoped for. Mission accomplished. What you fail to realize in your cushy little world is that there are a lot of kids out there who do not have anyone to turn to for help. If they can find a few suggestions online and that helps them stay in school GREAT! How quick you are to judge and belittle people you don't know. I've spent half my life helping kids, and I'm not about to let some creative genius like you talk me out of it. If you don't like questions that ask for help don't answer them. |

This may be a stretch. In order to create good graphics for an ad you need a theme (story board). Use words to describe a small accident that requires some quick cash to repair and how having a credit card saves the day. Follow up with using it to buy ice cream. The flexibility is the broad scope of applications for credit card use.

Half the battle is just getting started. I'd make it sort of a public service type message from Visa, in these economic times. Maybe a Tom Bodette, Motel 6 voice, homey, friendly......

In the real world, you would have an advertising company buy the radio time for your campaign and they would have a professional copywriter complete the ad. You would work closely with the company explaining what your goals you are trying to achieve. EG: new location branding, New service branding, Etc.
If you were doing it on your own, you could hire a free lance copywriter from Craigslist. They usually have a day job, but work part time copy writing. You would be looking at $25 to $55 an hour depending on your market and your needs.

I think the graphic design field needs people who are very creative. If you cannot think of a concept on your own I am afraid you are wasting your money on the tuition. |

I manage a successful design studio and I can appreciate your teacher assigning an exercise in creativity for a design class. Can't you?
My only advice to you is that if you have to have other people do your creative thinking for you - then you need to talk to your guidance counselor to identify a different career track and elective course. Quick.
Like many here, I'm disgusted by how many students run to online to answer boards to have complete strangers do their homework for them. And how many actually comply! All you grownups out there who are answering this kid - shame on you. You are supposed to know better than to help this kid cheat. |
