I put my website online! How do I promote it and make it a top search result on google and yahoo??

I have been providing professional SEO services for 5 years now. In my experience Yahoo tends to be the trickiest of all search engines. Paying for placement is always an option, by what fun is that?

Here is where I would start.
Key word research - you need to determine what keywords people are searching for.

Optimization- now place those keywords in to your website. This is tricky though. You only what one page per keyword. Basically you are hurting your self if you have 2 pages both targeting "snowboarding". You want to place the words in the title tag and incorporate them in the description tag. Also NATURALLY mention them in the body of the page DO NOT over use the keywords, you will get banned, you will cry. Just don't do it.

Now try to get links from other sites, preferably with you keywords as the anchor text.

Unfortunately the art of SEO is very hard to sum up in to a quick answer so I have includes so continued research links for you as well.

I took a look at your site. I do like the eye appeal. It has a nice classy layout which is professional. That's a plus.

There are a couple of things you can do to build your traffic. Yes, you can buy it by running an Adwords campaign with Google, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you really know what you are doing. It is a good way to lose money quickly if you don't.

You can get your site out there more by requesting links to your site from other related type sites, like maybe gardening sites or landscaping sites, etc. (Frankly, I don't know much about bamboo, so I don't know what would be considered related :-)

You can submit your site to free directories that are theme related. I'll leave a SearchIt link in the source box below. That will give you free access to the public version of the tool that lets you do some really good research, like finding directories, etc.

Another thing you can do is place ads in the free classifieds - just google the term free classifieds and you will find some. One of the best recommended is usfreeads.com

You can submit an article to article sites - perhaps about the use of bamboo on everyday properties or the benefits to the environment, something like that. When you submit your article, you are able to leave a link back to your site.

All of these things help raise your rankings in the search engines. But ultimately, the best way to draw natural targetted traffic to your site would be to really expand your site with lots of free quality info. about bamboo.

You can have pages about each type of bamboo, it's history and origins, it's growth patterns, the ecological benefits, etc. That is just me brainstorming without all the knowledge of the
subject that you have.

The more quality content you have that is keyword focused, the more the search engines will automatically direct people to your site when they type in terms like bamboo or whatever your keywords for that particular page.

You need to pay an optimization company to get you at the top of searches.

Your home page is practically "invisible" to the search engines. Step one is to get rid of that "Enter" page so you have some content.

Good luck, you're in a relatively non-competitive (online) field, so take care of the fundementals, and the rest will fall in place through continued content addition, and gaining of inbound links.

Step three? Add an affiliate program, and get others selling for you too, multiplying your efforts exponentially.

Hi- I checked out your site and notice you do not offer click and buy. Essentially, if your website is not directly income producing you don't want to put to much money into promoting it. Certainly you want to include your dot com on all of your printed media, ads, bus. cards, etc, etc. And ofcourse, you'll want to slip a little something into every package you send out. I would recommend you get the ability to process orders online then go to google and yahoo and you can actually buy keywords. So, if Joe Customer searches on Yahoo for "Bamboo Trees to buy on line" and your keywords are "Bamboo, buy , on line, trees, etc, etc. Then you'll come up first (as long as you're willing to pay Yahoo/Google anywhere from a nickel to a dollar (depending on your keywords) for every person that clicks through then you're good. You first need to submit your site to the major search engines and then you need to look at SEO. This article on digital marketing should help:

My best advice is to go to a local bookstore chain like Barnes & Noble or Borders. Find a book on search engine optimization (there are tons of titles on SEO these days because it's the flavor of the year). Don't bother even buying the book but rather just read certain chapters of it where they list URLs to resources. For zero money investment, now you have some basic answers.
