b | I want to make a flyer advertising my landscaping business. Can I use Microsoft Word? |
other suggestions welcome |

No, you won't want to use Microsoft Word...it will look too dull, which won't project the image you want to portray. Since you have a landscaping business, you want to have a flyer that is organized and looks visually appealing. For this you're going to want to use programs like Abobe Pagemaker, Illustrator and Photoshop.
If you have a general idea of what you want to say in your flyer and you have a few pictures of your work and a logo, you can go ahead email them all to me and I can make you a professionally designed flyer. I have the above programs and several years experience in advertising design.
I won't charge you anything if you email me your stuff before the weekend, then I'll be able to get it back to you by Monday. I'll consider it my good deed for the week. Talk to you soon. |

Yes you can, but if you have Microsoft Publisher on your computer it is designed for that. You should also have a website made for your business. Make sure to get your own domain name. Its cheaper than you think. |

I have some experience with this topic considering my bother and myself own a painting company and parent's own a landscaping business. My best answer is to deliver something professional and have a professional do the design. The best resource I have found is www.VistaPrint.com. They will give a person designer and design until your happy with the flyer.
Tip: Get into molible-home parks, if you can get one job it will surely turn into more just by referrals. |

I am a creative director for a printing company, so I can tell you straight out that it may cost you more in teh long run to use word than if you paid someone to do it for you.
Save yourself some costs by creating a layout in word for the designer to use as a guide, a good designer should be able to pull off a landscaping flyer in around 2 hours if its not too wordy or full of hard to find logos.
I just recently did one for a company that did window cleaning and he had done just B&W photocopies before, after he dropped the new colour gloss flyers off he said his business tripled.. and he dropped me off a nice big bottle of Vodka for a thanks. |

No. Word is a horrible program. Learn Adobe Illustrator or hire a student to design it for you. |

You could well use Microsoft Word, but I would recommend using Microsoft Publisher or Adobe Photoshop. Using Word wouldn't be the end of the world, but whatever you do, do not use a WordArt! They look cheap and taccy and look very unprofessional! |

I have used MIcrosoft Word for fliers for my band. What I do, is insert a bunch of text boxes. I recommend playing around a bit with the text box properties...border, no border, fill (color), no fill (no color), placing the box in front of text, placing the box around text, having the text in side the box centered, right, or left (aligned). I have made fliers in the past that have as many as 30+ text boxes...text boxes of different sizes, shapes, and characteristics. One for the title or subject line, one for the body...you can even insert clip art or a photograph/picture and make the text box fit right around the picture (and select no border & no fill). This allows for all of the items in your flier to be independent of one another so that you can click on one of the sides of the box and move it around as desired. Hope this helps! |
