Ash | I want to sell my idea on to a company??? |
I dont and cannot afford a patent sadly....but, i wish to sell my idea of my product on, its all documented in a portfolio and i have hte first one made in the living room. its a simplistic candle stick which goes in most houses- old or new. I was just wondering of anyone knows any companies who would be interested in buying the idea off me. I would make an sell them myself but, I do not have the market and capabilities of mass making. I would really like to know, as i think more people should be able to enjoy the simplisity of it. Its an in the style of project- I chose Marcel Breuer....no pranks please as I have limited time for the next week due to another project...a BBQ..any one interested in buying that idea off me!??? I also amde a slot together toy train with moving wheels. its sturdy but I have yet to retrieve it from school. I am an a-level student and have done research in to who would want these as well...so amrket research has been done!(small scale though) Additional Details I am serious. i would love to sell my ideas on...sadly i dont wish to sell my only real made product off, as they are special to me...how ever if someone did buy the idea off me i would be willing to send a lot of photo's off!!! |

is there a particular candle that would go with your sticks, if so research them and their manufacturers find ones you like the look of and email or phone them.
Phoning would probably be better |

Go to your local Citizens Advice, they may be able to help. Good Luck. |

From what you say, I am not sure you could patent your candlestick anyhow. Is there an inventive step? Does it do something other candlesticks don't? Even if you think it does, there is no guarantee that there is not a patent out there already covering it or something like it. So try doing a patent search - you can do this on google http://www.google.com/patents and although this may not pick up all the things a professional patent lawyer or technology transfer company would, you will get an idea of what is out there.
If you cannot patent it, you may be able to register the design, and that is something where you need to talk with someone in technology transfer. Not sure where you are, but google tech transfer and possibly consultancy and you should find someone to help you out.
Even if you just want to licence or sell your idea to a company, you probably need to talk to someone about it as if you talk to a potential licencee without any protection they can take your idea and use it. You need a confidentiality or non-disclosure agreement in place.
Now all this costs money, but the good news is that many areas have regional development agencies with startup grants for this sort of thing. So go and talk to a professional, most will give you a free 30 minutes, and I think that might move you along if you have anything valuable. |

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!
I don't drink, so for me, it's Monday. I am a quarter Irish, though. Have fun if it applies.
As far as your invention, I suggest that you stop telling people details of your ideas and contact the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in Arlington, Va.:
www.uspto.gov
You can also do free Patent Searches in the US Patent Depository on-line at this site.
They can answer ANY question you may have. They are sponsored by the US Department of Commerce. They WANT to help independent American inventors because innovation stimulates the US economy.
The USPTO Inventor's Assistance Center's toll-free hot-line is (800)786-9199. They have agents available Monday through Friday, 9a-5p.
The "technical support" agents are all US Patent Examiners. They are very friendly and helpful.
You can file a Provisinal Patent Application to secure early filing date and immediate "Patent Pending" status for $105.
You can manufacture and distribute on a Patent Pending. It's also licensable and assignable (you can sell it outright). That's all you need.
Do yourself a favor. Stop telling people your ideas and call the PTO. Even if your product doesn't qualify for a Utility Patent, they'll tell you what type of free or inexpensive protection is appropriate for your type of product, and which direction to go.
One last thing, NEVER deal with an Invention Submission Corporation (ISC)... they're all scams.
