Hi there. I wish to build a web-site for the business run by my wife.
Not having done this before, I wife to gather some information on how it is done, and how to ultimately edit, periodically, the site when it is finished.
To this effect, what is the process to accomplish this task and, do I need to create at portal, a door, if you like, to enable me to perform surgical work on the site?

STOP - before you do anything search and read. It's good that you came here and asked first but before you pick and buy a Domain name or a web host and start throwing up a poorly designed site ... take a week or two to do research from more than one place.
The Internet is littered with garbage advice and completely wrong methods of achieving success online. You wouldn't go out and buy a hammer and saw then try to build a house ...would you ?

Hi
First step in website creation is to choose and then register Domain for your business. It will be great if the domain name reflects the idea of the business what you possess.
Then either purchase the web-space by registering to Yahoo Domains(example) or any other, or go for free web-space. There are many website including MSN which offer this facility(though for 1 year only).
Start creating the website.
Put Adsense Code. THAT'S ALL.

Since you're brand new to web design, I highly recommend either XSitePro, which is an awesome editor that automates many very advanced functions and is completely WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get). You can create some really nice sites in no time at all.
The other solution is to use Site Build It. With SBI, you can actually create an online business from your web site. It uses a block builder for new users so all you need to do is enter text.
I've use both tools myself, but much prefer Site Build It. It's got me to the point where I work from home now. |

For a complete beginner I would recommend you buy something called Site Build It! (non-beginners can use SBI!, but it's even more perfect for a beginner). Why? Because it explains everything you need to do; it provides all the tools you'll need (including hosting); and it provides the support you'll need (via an unsurpassed forum of fellow SBI-site owners) once your website is up and running..
Do a search on Google for "Site Build It"
Or go to YouTube.com and do a search for ilovesbi - video testimonials from SBI owners that are truly inspirational
