If I cant afford to keep my telemarketer on, should i let her go or keep her and not earn as much?
My telemarketer helps me get clients by calling them from my office. Currently she's paid on an hourly basis. She does a good job but keeping her on payroll is taking its toll on my pocket. what should i do? Should i keep her on or do the financially sound thing and let her go for now?

Move the telemarketer to a commission plus hourly basis. Give a totally commission based plan where the telemarketer only receives income for closed sales. You should be able to compute how much a sale is worth to you and come up with a plan that is fair to the telemarketer also.

Good Luck

My best advice is to keep emotions out of it. You may feel bad, but you must do what's right for your business.

Ask her to take a reduction in pay, and she may agree. A pay cut is probably more favorable than unemployment.

Ask yourself...if she were gone, would your company be better
off? If she is bringing in new clients, does that not offset the
cost of her services? Ease the blow by offering her straight commission based on completed sales.
Could someone else do the job...perhaps, you?

Sounds like you have a cash flow problem. Do not use a telemarketer, do it yourself. When cash flow improves rehire. But first calculate if it pays to have a telemarketer. Take total pay including taxes says its $20,000/yr calculate how many sales do you have to make multiply your NET PROFIT that figure will be your break even. if it's substantially more than the salary rehire if not get a new telemarketer or go it alone.

maybe reduce her hours til you become more financially sound, then gradually bump her hours back up

It depends a little on how much you like her, and what she looks like. Is she able to multitask? Do you have another "job" she might be able to perform? Or another position youde like her in wher she could better use her"assets"

As a telemarketer, I must ask you how much do you enjoy cold calling? If she is good at her job, keep her and struggle for a little while. Most businessmen do better having someone making the calls for them. Also consider the extra time you will need to do it yourself.

Ask her if she is willing to take less, if not, you will have to let her go. Lower her pay without asking, and she might quit on you anyway. I know I would.

well dam if u do ,dam if u don't. how will you get clients unless u do it yourself which will probably take u away from the main prospects of the business but u may want to consider that, because that relationship with the clients dailey is a constant reminder that your company exist

Well, It seems that you are in a bit of a pickle. You don't have enough business to keep her on the payroll but need her to keep the business coming in. If anything in a down turn in your business, cut cost but increase your spending on Marketing (in your case adding a second telemarketer or maybe joining her on the outbound calls) If you have enough business without her and she is as good as you say then she will find another telemarketing job rather easily, as these are rather transient jobs and anyone who can sell is in big demand. Hope this helps.

austin_long
She doesn't pay for herself in the short term, but in the long term? Will you be better off in the long term? If not, there's no question that you have to let her go. You have to protect your business - and having that money to invest elsewhere, or to have some cash in the bank, that protects the business that you love. There is plenty of work to go around right now, and I'm sure you'll give her a great reference!

Anyone can do a telemarketer job ....i would suggest u take over the helms for the time being
