Don't rely on search alone. Your relevance will be low as a new website unless you create a big splash. You should really look at partnering with other companies that would fit well with your business and would be happy to link to you in exchange for a link back. That is a no-cost start. Besides that, having the right "bot" or "spider" language will be helpful. Also, the more often there are changes to parts of your content, the more current your site will appear to bots and thus more relevant. All these can boost your rating.
At a cost, there is formal advertising for your site (TV, newspapers, other websites, business cards, flyers, etc) and pay-per-click advertising through Google. There are a lot of companies that do that.
Most effective is word of mouth. Make sure you get people in your social network to tell others and then get happy customers to tell more people.
Whatever you do, getting people to come to your site is an essential part of your business plan. |

No, you cannot expect that people will find your site and your product. Search Engine Optimization is a very complicated thing, and requires lots of time (or money to hire someone). If you are interested in doing it yourself, try searching for articles or other questions on yahoo, and you can read how it can be done.
Otherwise, I would recommend you try to get your company and products listed on some other sites, and get some of the work done for you. For instance, if you created a free store on a site like http://www.whyabe.com you could write a little bio about your business, include a hyperlink to your website, and even sell a few products on their site for no cost. An added benefit is sites like this also get listed in the google product search, so by listing on their free site, your product gets listed out in the google engine for free (no programming work for you). You still can have you company hyperlink in your store, therefore get natural traffic back to your site.

This refers to the visual and technical display of your site. Though simple but eye catching graphics will do.

Investigate SEO sites, better coded sites score higher in the results, a good start is a code standard of 'xhtml 1.0 transitional' site, then look at meta tags etc.

Sorry to be so blunt but I have to state that having a business website is not a 'magic pill of riches or profits'. A business website is your marketing tool. Use it well, and you'll see massive cash flow in your bank account.
It's just like setting up an retail shop. By simply having a retail shop, does not always guarantee you profits. Just as you market your brick and mortar business, you should also do the same online.
Start learning how to sell well online and how to use your website to the fullest to market your business.
