You might want to be considering moving your location to where you can put a sign out.
Leave business cards at area businesses, if restraunts have business sponsored ads on their placemats put yours there so people can see. Put an add in the paper. Possibly renting a billboard if one is close to the area. |

Mailouts, tv ads, word of mouth. |

Contact a radio station about offering them free stylings or whatever in exchange for ads.
Wedding season is fast approaching too. You could set up some wedding packages with some other wedding-y type vendors and approach - then the business could be referred. |

well, my initial response was yellow pages, yellow pages, yellow pages. but...i think women's hair salons become popular due to word of mouth. you could offer your current clients a referral discount. say something like 10% for every referral they have and limit it to 5. you need to get people talking about it. |

In your field, word of mouth is the best form of advertising. Your target is often found in nail salons which don't offer hair cutting. See if you can find a nail salon that will post brochures about your business and tell them you will do the same for them.
If you use an exclusive vendor for hair supplies (like Paul Mitchell) ask them is they can provide you with a mailing list for your area so you can do a direct mailing. |

You might need to add a bit of flair. I don't know what your shop looks like, but maybe you can have: "Two for Tuesday" where if one adult buys a hair cut, the child can get one either free or 50% off. Maybe you need to make your main sign bigger or brighter, play music, change your hours. A lot of people don't have time to get hair cuts in the middle of the day and they work long days. There was a salon near my house that would open late in the day and stay open later...they were always packed!
Well, hope you find something. Good luck! |

Get the best hair stylist you can find. You should have both men and women working for you, preferably young. Have other things in your salon like waxing, massage, pedi/manicures. Find a good location and dont put alot of small signs all over the windows, it looks cheap and your clients will be people who dont want to spend alot of money for your services. Dont open up a salon in a strip mall. |

i think its all about word of mouth at the beggining.. just get in touch with all your friends family etc and ask them to tell others. this is the best cuz ppl dont go to salons unless they know its good, and therefore if they are reffered to ur salon by someone else it would really help. and even then like someone had said before try doing promotions, where they get maybe a blowdry for free or something..
good luck.. |

Depends on your budget... and your target audience...who are your customers...and where are they? And what would make them come to you....
Few suggestions- a stand outside walmart, or blockbuster
or huge discounts for first time visitors if your budget permits it |
