If a company does not honor their Mail-in-Rebate then?
is it OK to buy a lot of their product--open the box and then return the merchandise saying you are not satisfied. To the extent that the company now has to spend money repackaging their product and sell it as refurbished they do not make the $$$s they cheated you of (on the MIR). Or is it better to never EVER buy anything that says MAIL_IN_REBATE because you know it is a F****ING SCAM

What happened?

Most of the time a rebate is lost because of the terms (usually not clear) were violated. For example: It says Mail in "original UPC bar-code" most people have no idea what one of the 6 bar-codes on the box this means. Just as you may feel cheated, the company has to make the terms specific in order to reduce the amount of fraud happening.

I worked at a rebate center where I got screamed at by upset people every single day... in 90 percent of the cases the person sent in a bar-code that was nothing we could use. A PC box has a bar-code for several different components. We would end up with bar-codes for speakers when it should be a PC bar-code. This way we had no idea if the actual computer was bought or if it was just the speakers.

I know it is frustrating... however there are many ways to solve the rebate issue.

Usually the only thing that is unsolvable is if the store marked the wrong product as having a rebate, in this case (happens all the time) the only way to get the rebate is to scream at the store manager because he was the one who made the mistake. Rebate centers will not budge on mistakes made by individual stores.

So, if you need help solving a rebate issue I might be able to help if you explain the situation.

However if you have exhausted yourself with the rebate center and they will not budge... take the issue to the store... most stores have been known to pay out the rebate if you are a good customer of theirs.

don't buy anything that offers a rebate. It is a total scam and all executives that come up with these deceitful ideas should be bushwhacked!

Sometimes it takes several months. Or you go to their HQ and shove their rebates in *you know where*

I hate rebates. I dont even waste my time with them. Don't let any mail-in rebate affect your purchase decision. Let it be a bonus after you've made your decision, if you plan on exercising the rebate at all.

Misch
is it past the expiration date? what is the return policy? if you can't take advantage of either turn them into the better business bureau. they have to legally honor it since it was part of the product price - they can't just say no rebate for you today

File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. You'll be surprised how fast the company responds. Sometimes they give "I am truly sorry" perks!

If a company does not honor their mail in rebate than you can take legal action, but I'm pretty sure you don't want to spend over one thousand dollars in legal fess just to claim a twenty dollar rebate. If I were you just write the company a letter that has a very serious tone. Talk like you know what you are talking about and they will definately send you your rebate. Trust me I had to do it before.

The best thing to do is file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission on the basis of false advertising.

Visit www.ftc.gov for more information on how to file

Once you file the complaint the FTC will open up an investigation file and review the matter. If they determine legitamcy then they will pursue other efforts to rectify the situation...
