thank you! |

Tell them you get what you pay for. Your prices might be higher but they are for a superior product and better customer service. |

First off, are your prices higher than they should be? If not than the best response is always something that has a mixture of humor and slightly somber overtones. |

Engage them further by responding: 'In comparison to...?'
For instance:
Customer: Your prices are too high!
You: In comparison to....?
Customer: The $1 dollar shop across the road!
You: Ah, I see. Well, the products we stock are made locally and support the economy, while the $1 shop imports products produced in slave labour camps in central China and illegally shipped here in the carry-on baggage of people pretending to be political refugees. |

I would go to youtube and listen to all of Zig Ziglar video's. There are many approaches and many responses depending on the product and if there is wiggle room in the price or the customer is not seeing the true value of your product. Learn about the difference between what something cost to purchase and the price someone will pay for something from Ziglar. |

"We don't pick the prices mam/sir, we just put a (insert percentage here)% increase on the merchendise we buy at factory retail."

You answer: "I am sorry you feel that way, we think it is the best price possible." You can add, prices are not determined by how much material is used, they have to sustain a business. |

Ah yes, the age old question of why prices are higher than we want them to be. It's simple. Basic Economics are at work here.
Everything stems from one place to the next. The store sets its prices slightly higher than the distributor, the distributor sets its prices higher than the manufacturer, and so it becomes a chain.
One reason why another's price will be slightly hire than the place they got it from is due to making a profit. Example: Company A buys 100 bushels of apples for $10 each from Company B. But Company A needs to make a profit. In order to do this, they would have to raise their price higher than $10, to, let's say $15. They sell bushels of Apples for $15 each, making a $5 profit on each bushel.
Now when it comes to low and high prices, supply and demand come into effect. Again, this is part of Economics. When you have more of what customers want, there is a low demand. Low demand equals lower prices. When there is less of what the customers want, higher demand comes into place, and thus prices are higher.
Don't forget also, that companies also raise prices to pay for their bills, such as rent, utilities, supplies needed, and wages to employees.
All of these things come into play.
So, keep that in mind when a customer tells you your prices are too high. It is not likely the customer will want a long explanation about this or even understand what you're talking about. Just calmly look at them and say, "Due to high demand, we must raise our prices so that we may continue to serve your needs."
