I wouldn't say its unethical. We give a bottle of wine to our clients during Christmas but we make sure that we don't give it to someone who wouldn't consume it because of cultural or religious reasons.

In North America, Europe you can gift alcohol without worrying too much but be careful if your clients are Asians.

in my own opinion, giving alcohol as a gift after a service is unethical considering that you have known about your client.
and if not, then its up to your client on how to perceive it. being ethical and unethical has a very thin line of argument since ethics is built upon the environment of the person is based on.

as a salesperson, you must have perceived its own characteristics...some salesperson would even give alcohol as a follow-up present or which serve as a gratitude for making the transaction....it turned out, the client was glad about it ( mind you, it depends upon your client)

No it is not unthical, infact many business people do that,they often give their clients a botle of reasonable expensive good wine.

well i think definetly yes it is unethical for the first meeting. Coz in the first meeting you still dont know who is he well and he doesn't know you that well ... you haven't breakin the ice yet .... you need to keep it smooth and professional for the first meeting ...

after that you will be able to judge ... whether to give him on the second meeting or not ... it will depend on the kind of relation that will develop from the first meeting .... and who knows .... maybe he would suggest that on the first meeting .... :)

P.S.: my opinion is not valid if you are an "Alcohol Drinks" Salesperson :P
