The kids come door to door, girl scouts, and boy scouts, and band members, and they're often selling something for $6 that they pay $4 for, that I could buy for $2, and that really annoys me.
I'd rather they sold pencils that said "Thanks for your $5 contribution to Whatever". My $5 purchase would earn the group $4.75, and I'd be a LOT happier with my purchase, knowing that the money went where I wanted it to go. (And the pencils serve as an good accounting system, unlike donating to UNICEF, where kids steal part of the money before they turn it in.)
If some kid came to the door selling $5 pencils, I might just buy 2 or 3 of them.
Better yet, they could sell both pencils and pens. The kid explains that for every $5 pencil purchased, the band makes $4.72 and for every $10 pen purchased, the band earns $8.19. You can get some pretty nice personalized pens for $1.80 or so. Would I want one of each?
And unsold pens and pencils could be used for the next fundraiser, the following year.
The other thing I'd like to see, especially for bands, is CDs of the band performing in concert. Once the band director makes the recording, they can press the CDs for less than a buck, jewelcase included, and since the perceived value of a CD is $10 to $15, they could make a nice piece of change selling the CDs at band concerts, football games, basketball games, etc. |

it's not that simple of a question. You have to look at 1) what price are you looking to sell your item for. 2) how do you plan on marketing it (web site, retail store, etc..). 3) what would your target customers consider "useful".
Don't just focus on the trinket. That's merely the added bonus. |

If you want to raise money for an organization but want people to want to part with their money. Offer them savings on the things they already buy. There is a company that is set up to do just that. Its absolutely free and who wouldn't want to save money while helping your organization? |
