For example, an event such as a county wide fair with exhibitors, craft displays and "main ring" attractions, or traditional-with-a-modern-slant music concerts for example using "Irish rock" bands.
How would you use resources such as band interviews, cd giveaways etc? And how do you get magazines, radio stations etc to listen to you and talk about your event without having to spend a total fortune on formal advertising? (which we have done in the past) Any useful ideas anyone? (UK Based)
Additional Details
When I suggest TV the answer I keep getting back from above is that there are so many channels now that it's not effective....or that people go and make a cup of tea in the break... or it's so expensive it's either going to cost too much or be over and done with before anyone notices it. |

Many local tv news stations do live interviews in their newscasts, often for local events. I'd try and contact the news departments of your local stations to see if they're interested in having a representative of your group come on their show for one of these news chats. It's great exposure, and it's not during a commercial break when viewers leave or flip channels. Sometimes these stations also have giveaways (usually in morning newscasts). You could offer tickets or CDs as items they could giveaway. |

1. Is this a new event or established?
2. Do you have capital to market or are you searching for shoestring ways?
3. The time frame of your event (how far in advance will this be happening)? |

Without a doubt, make this news worthy to get free press!
What is going on there that would be of interest to the general population? Maybe...
1. It is environmentally friendly
2. A huge band is donating a percentage of it's profits
3. It is on a special day (or could be used to celebrate a close by special day)
4. A children's group is going to perform
5. Something happened last year that would make people remember the event. (Then either say it won't happen again - if it was something bad... or say it WILL happen again - if it was something good.)
The key to getting it in the newspaper is to look in the paper under where this type of thing would be featured. Check out the journalist, and contact them. Tell them you have a great story for them.

HI if its a local event try local news papers, flyers distributed in local news papers post flyers in shops supermarkets try typing keywords on google local events also type in area of event and it might come with different websites to plugin your event.

Hi,
I have a lot of experience marketing small companies online (I have 3 companies). One of the best ways is to sign up at business directories and protals. These are basically listings of businesses (simliar to the phone book). The advantage is that these portals usually get a lot of traffic and they're ranked high on Google because of all the quality links they contain.
My favorite portal is called Directory Exclusive. I signed up a few weeks ago because they're giving a away a free business card holder when a person enter's their company info. I received it in the mail 3 days ago =)
