girlygirl8000 | Interested in advertising. Should I have an art GCSE? |
I am really interested in working in advertising in the future and will be taking my GCSEs fairly shortly. I have to make a choice between latin and art. I am also already doing drama and ancient greek. Which one would look better on a CV, if wanting to work in advertising? Additional Details I wanted to work in the copywrite area. Also for classics-I am already doing greek! |

ok this is all i could come up with for advertising hope it helps.
Employers usually look for a broad range of communication, interpersonal and creative skills. They also require enthusiasm, the ability to work within a larger team and self-motivation. Employers specialising in promoting a particular industry sector, usually require people with knowledge of that sector.
There are no set entry requirements, but competition for jobs means that many entrants, even for junior positions, have an HND, Foundation degree or degree. Candidates with relevant work experience may be at an advantage.
Much of the training is on the job, relating to each employer's type of business, products or services. Specialised external courses are also offered by professional organisations and training centres. |

Hiya,
I'm a copywriter and I think it's the best job ever! Art classes will definitely look good on your cv, because you need to be creative in advertising - whether you're in sales or in design / concept. Good luck! |

Just do the one you are most interested in. As long as you have good GCSE's you can get to university and then do soemthing relevant, GCSE is really irrelevant (imho). Obv if you wanted to be a designer (graphic or otherwise) then art would help (but then so will IT).
Enjoy. |

As a twelve-year veteran on the creative side of advertising, I can tell you that "Latin" will not help you at all. Art, on the other hand, will help you regardless of whether you enter the creative side of the field or the account side. And, FYI, I've interviewed in multiple agencies in multiple cities and have never been asked for anything more than a resume and my portfolio. Good luck! |

Latin, as this would show you have a great command of language - absolutely essential in communications |

hi, for the most detailed and accurate info you should read through some of these job profiles from learn direct on Marketing, Selling and Advertising http://www.learndirect-advice.co.uk/helpwithyourcareer/jobprofiles/category16/
they have details of pay, entry qualifications needed, training, opportunities etc as well as good links at the end if you want to find out more. |

i want to work in advertising too!!
I took graphics, art and IT. I've just finished them, and i will be doing media next year too.
If you want to work in advertisement, definitely take art. Latin is a "dead-language" and is only used in medicine these days. Also, if you have the opportunity, I advise you take graphics as well. |

Depends on which part of advertising you want to go into, Creative,Account Handling,Media, the list goes on, advertising is very diverse, it`s not a business full of people drawing pretty pictures and thinking up funny copy.
I suggest you get a copy of the industry directory BRAD and write, not e-mail to a number of agencies to see if you could spend a day in their offices, you might be pleasantly surprised at their reaction, one of the agencies I worked for was McCanns suggest start there.
Good Luck |
