I've had very good luck driving traffic to my retail customers' websites with Google Adwords. If you have a service people want it's a great way to advertise. Be sure to use sensible keywords to get your site high on the organic google search too. This is completely free and it also brings in customers. Put you site in web directories. Many are free. The more pages that link to your site the better. This raise your rank on the organic search.
