Is it OK to get mad at telemarketers when they are 'just doing their job'?
Do you think that its possible for them to be legal and immoral at the same time?

I have recently had an issue with a door to door solicitor who smooth talked me into buying magazines I didn't want. He did so even though I have a no soliciting sign on my door, even though he was breaking the law because he did not pay for a solicitors liscence.

I bought the magazines out of guilt. Guilt that I live in a nice house and he is working door to door, and guilt that a phone call I made to local authorities got another magazine sales man busted a few months back.

The thing is, he convinced me to do something I didn't want to do. He played on my guilt. I was brave enough to say you are an intelligent person, you should find a better type of employment. But I wasn't strong enough to say, I don't care if you don't eat tonight because you didn't sell me magazines. Go away. I should have just handed him a sandwich.

Thing is, he used guilt to get me to do something I didn't want to. I don't think that is moral.

The market place is called the market place for a reason. That is where we should be selling goods--not on phone lines, not at our front door, and not in a temple during Passover. If Jesus could get ticked off about it, I think He's a good lead to follow.

Sometimes they are as polite as they can be. Other times they will use a ploy like ,"Is this such-and-such speaking?" When you say "no, wrong number" they'll go, "Well, maybe I could interest YOU in dadada..." That really Ps me O! So here is what I do. I say,"Please leave me your home number so that I can call you back at MY convenience!" That gets 'em!

Sure, we should all tear into them at every opportunity. They are totally intrusive and universally annoying. After you're done reaming them, be sure to tell them to put you on their do not call list. One good tactic is to ask to speak to their boss, but save that for last because it's a sure hang up.

No, it's not OK to yell or be rude to them. They are just doing a job. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

If you don't want telemarketers to call, add your home number to the Do Not Call list.

Consider your own business. Is it OK for you to yell and scream at the people who provide products to your business? Is it OK for your customers to yell and scream at your business' salespeople?

Can't you think of a civil statement to tell salespeople that call?

I do agree that's its wrong to invade your privacy uninvited, but I don't think it's fair to "get mad" at them. Not only are they only doing a job, but it's a terrible job (I had to do it once and it drove me crazy), so badly paid and working among morons in such a soulless environment, when people yelled at me on the phone it made me feel worse about being in a situation I already hated (once I cried!).

It's pretty easy to be firm without being rude, just say I'm not interested/Sorry, I'm busy. But you're only human, we've all snapped at these people!

sure its ok to get mad at telemarketers. They may just "be doing their jobs", but they are making unsolicited phone calls to people. People have a right not to have their privacy invaded, especially at family dinner hour or late a night.

Absolutely Yes. I do not like having the phone ring, thinking it is someone,or something important, just to find out it is someone trying to sell me something. It should be made against the law in every state.

they are annoying so its ok

WHAT WOULD YOU ACCOMPLISH GETTING ANGRY AT TELEMARKETERS? THE BAD VIBES WILL BE ONLY YOURS -- IT'LL BE WATER OFF THEIR BACKS.
