newlife21 | Is it bad form to compare your prices to a competirors in an advertisement? |
I am a marketing professional and would like to promote the fact the my product is not only the best, but also the lowest cost. Is it bad marketing ettiquette to publish a competitor price comparison table in an ad or to say your prices are guaranteed to be a certain percent lower than your competitors? I have seen this a lot in various ads....what do you think? is it bad form? Additional Details Additional notes: I'm marketing a service in the Business to Business environment...not an actual product int the B2C world. I would pull prices from competitor websites. Price is becoming more important to our clients with the current economic conditions. |

Depends on the product, but is fraught with risks - that is why if prices are compared you will normally find in small print at the bottom exactly where you got the prices - published list, ads in N.Y.Times on 6/7/2007, comparison shopping week of Feb 15, 2008, etc. Unless you are doing direct sales, you can't say your prices are x% less (except for published list) because the retailers set the prices and can go higher or lower than what you "set","suggest" in many states.
Also, you risk setting that yours is a "cheap" product - better to push that it is a good value due to strong features and suggest people compare prices themselves. |

I don't think so, and companies do it all the time. I personally would not do it because I look at it as a cheap shot and possibly a lack of creativity. However, I don't think it's technically in bad form.
However, if a marketer, MUST take this approach, he/she MUST get clearance through their company's legal team.
I've always been taught that you DO NOT take this approach if you're the leading product. This is an act of desperation and you point customers in the direction of competitors. |

we should not publish the price of the competitor...u know the price in what they are selling?...u fix the price lower than them...customer now a days read the market well and analyse the price and then only their buying process starts...plz don compare the price...it is something causes bad impression |

Its a very if not the best form of advertising, you see it all the time, just go round the shelves in a supermarket. |

One way to do it is something like Our Price- Their Price-
or offer a guarantee like if you find this item cheaper- we'll pay you X$ or x%.
Personally, I don't focus on price-
It sounds like you might want to pick up a copy of the Ultimate Sales Letter By Dan Kennedy.
Good solid information.
good luck!

its a nice strategy, but u should be aware of ur COMPETITORS , and there reaction about that, if ur not strong enough to face the sequences <stay on the silent mode>, cuz im sure that u dont wont to be crushed!!!? , and after a while the <word of mouth> will help u gain more attraction..., |
