Getting into a good lawschool is hard. Getting through it with decent grades is hard. Passing the bar exam is super hard.
Patent and Trademark Law can be big bucks. |

Bradley, Everybody gets paid for his efforts, skill sets and knowledge. Very few strike luck and remain lucky forever.
As for making efforts you may also make efforts to get second line of income. Try for free..

Yeah, it's about 7 years worth of schooling.
As for common types of lawers that make lots? Good ones to start with. After that, Corporate lawyers. |

Well, there's law school where you earn your juris doctorate. Then you have to pass the Bar exam. If you can do that, you're a lawyer. I work with lawyers, and believe me, they're not blooming geniuses for the most part, it's not like earning a medical degree, but it does take some work and money for law school. A defense lawyer usually gets paid by the hour, so that's nice. However, a lucky plaintiff's lawer can land a big case and then get 33 percent of a million dollar award or settlement. You need to have the cash to fund the case since the client is not paying you anything -- they give you their case on a contingency basis, meaning you pay all the costs and work for nothing until you win. If you lose the case, you've just lost a ton of money. So, I guess with that scenario, you'd better be a really good lawyer if you want to represent plaintiffs. The good news is that almost every case settles before it goes to trial. Our firm (a defense firm) just paid out millions of dollars because risking a jury trial might have been even worse -- so, plaintiff's lawyers do rake in the cash. But for every plaintiff's lawyer that strikes it rich, there's 10 others that have to borrow money to stay in business. Criminal lawyers (now there's an apt term) will get paid by the hour to defend someone. Criminal prosecutors are employed by the county and they're in it mostly for the ideal of being a white knight seeing to it that justice is served. The pay isn't bad compared to working at McDonald's, but like I said, prosecutors aren't in it so much for the money. Insurance defense is what I would recommend you go into. Work for a rich insurance company that pays you by the hour and pays all your costs. |

Easy getting to be a lawyer. School, Bar, you're working. Paying off all the loans is the hard part. Every consider entertainment law??? Big bucks, big (and wanna be) celebs to hang with. Easy money, and WAY better that chasing ambulances or divorces, heheheheh... |

Not speaking from experience as one, I'm sure it is hard to be a lawyer. They require a lot education of course. But as far as being in that career, there is a lot of hours of work. But I think it is probably a very rewarding career and worthwhile, because they can help people who've been injured, discriminated against, etc.
There's lots of areas of law...environmental, discrimination, elder, corporate, estates & wills, labor & employment, bankruptcy, copyright & patent, etc.
Check on Salary.com for how much they get paid. It will list them as general counsel I, II, III, and I think more specific law titles. |

It is difficult to become a lawyer. Entrance exams are brutal, school has a 33% attrition rate, tuition is wicked expensive, Bar exams are very brutal and then your billable hours requirement borders on the insane (80-110/week).
Top paid lawyers are:
1.) Successful class action extortionists, er, I mean plaintiff attorneys.
2.) Tax attorneys.
3.) Patent attorneys. |
