Is it illegal to sell fundraising cookie dough independently, with no school group or anything?
I am looking to make some money, and immediately thought of fund-raising ideas. I saw the website
http://www.indeygo.com/cookie_dough_fundraising.htm
and thought, "wow, great!". I am not part of a group, but instead the situation is that some friends and I would like to do something for Christmas with the money. Like, buy a Santa suit and give out presents to kids in the community. My intentions are good, but I'm curious on the legality of all this. Anyone know?

It is not illegal but you will run into people asking things like "oh what is the cause i am supporting" or "what does the money go toward" or "or what is the name of the group, never heard of them". Not illegal may be difficult to prove why they should trust giving to you. Try giving your group of friends a name and tell people why you are doing it. It makes things sound more legitimate to strangers. It sounds like you have good intentions and a big heart. Good luck!

Of course it's legal, go on & give it a shot! It may work out for you.

That's perfectly legal. You don't HAVE to be with a school or church group to do that kind of thing as long as you are actually fundraising for a reason and not just trying to make some cash for yourself. Just tell people why you are selling....that you want to raise money to give Christmas presents to kids in the community.

i wouldnt buy cookie dough from a stranger. Would you?

bobs
You should be ok, but if the company asks you what your organization is, tell them it's for personal use. That way the IRS won't wonder why you haven't filed anything.
