that depends on the scope you're speaking about...
as far as starting your own business is concerned, it's impossible to get into the mainstream of the advertising business without being over the age of 18, as legally, any contracts that would be drawn up between you and a potential client wouldn't be valid - as one must be over the age of 18 in order to enter into a contract in the first place. however, there are ways around this -
if you can get a parent or legal guardian to agree to put the business in their name and sign all contracts, then sure, you'd be able to do whatever work came your way - however, that parent or guardian would be liable for any possible lawsuits resulting from the business, and would therefore want to be insured in order to protect themselves from this risk - and commercial (business) insurance is somewhat expensive.
also, many advertising firms offer "internships" - part-time work at their agency...those eligible are usually college students majoring in advertising. however, if you have some talent and/or knowledge of the advertising business, as well as good interviewing skills, you could always apply for an internship anyway - all they can say is no. btw, the pay is usually minimum wage, but it's a great way to gain experience in the field, and an excellent plus for your college application and/or resume. |
