I work for myself in direct sales and have just won an award. I thought submitting a press release could be a free way to drum up some business. Would editors take this seriously or laugh as they throw it in the trash? |

If you write a press release about yourself, see if you can't get someone else to submit it for you. It will come across as less self-serving this way.
I don't think it's "wrong" or tacky to write a press release about yourself - if you don't pat yourself on the back no one else will do it for you.
When you write your press release, make sure it is written in the third person. It will read as more objective and will have a higher chance of being used by the paper or the news media.
Don't forget to include contact information at the end of your press release in case the news editor wants to ask questions or check the validity of the story. A simple "For further information, contact SOMEONE'S NAME AT PHONE NUMBER OR E-MAIL ADDRESS."
You are within your rights to sing your own praises. So go for it. |

you will find most "press releases" are written and submitted by the corporation or individual that the story is concerning. this is common practice that is why it is a "press release" and not a "news story". write it in third person and include your contact information. most papers print press releases as an in-road to possible future advertising. |

If you write use a alias and submit it from your company.
Don't get to excited about getting them published though and even less about getting "business".
I doubt anyone really cares if you are made VP of sales as opposed to Sales Manager except sales people who will now have your name and WILL call. |

No, it's not tacky at all to write a press release about yourself, but there is a correct way to do it. There are plenty of press release/wire services available on the net and most are free. When writing a release on yourself, it's best to write about yourself in the "third person" (like you are a reporter). Use your first and last name ... after all you should be trying to brand yourself ..... Stick with facts and cover what it was for (what you did to earn it), how it has affected your status or your business and feel free to use your name more than once and ANY other "key words" that you would consider pertanent to your line of work or company. "Key word rich" is the secret! It's not uncommon for people that are trying to become more recognized on the internet to write a press release once a week! The search engine spiders LOVE updated info. whether it be on you, products or services you are newly introducing through your company or just results from last week's effort. Depending on where you post, like blogs even, you can disguise your website link with a phrase like "her company" and hyperlink it to your website (most blogs frown on blatant advertising & self promoting, but you can be helpful and discreet about your co. at the same time). Always try to link the release or blog back to your site and every time the spiders crawl your new information, they'll jump from one link to the next and before you know it ,you'll be at the top of the search engines. This is called search engine optimization ........ and people that provide SEO as a service can get paid as much as $500/hour. You can do it yourself, bit by bit and save yourself the money while you are branding YOUR NAME! Hope this helps .... this works, just be patient and give yourself a boost .... no one will do it for you, unless you have DEEP pockets!!! |

well, since you work for your self I'm guessing you've register your business.
If so then write a release about your company and about topic ... say what you do.
Then include the award the company receive for (why you giving the award)
you can also take pic with it and add to your release stating here is the president of the company with... you get the idea right.
and oh, by the way, is your release for online or offline only. Either way it shouldn't matter.
It is not advisable to write a press release about yourself. Should be about your company and put yourself as the president of the organization who was interview by someone else.

or something like...
(your name here) has recently lunch .....(company name)
description should focuse on getting the readers interested to click the release.
In the body copy you can add yourself as follows to some of the paragraphs like, (your name added), (said your name) then
the president of (company name) menstion due to .......... it was awarded (award recognition) for (whatever you did to receive the award)
This is just example... do check out prweb for some releases in your market for samples. |
