Marketing has such a wide spread of opportunities!
You can work at a independent firm, in a company's marketing department, own a company yourself....doing:
market research, ad campaigns, event marketing, helping companies get on the right track, and SO much more!
Look into it for sure!

I majored in Advertising and Marketing in college and it's only helped me slightly.
Now I own a T-shirt Company but what they teach you in school is nothing compared to what you will have to deal with in real life.
If you want to work for someone in the field of marketing then yes it's a good idea to get a marketing major.
If you want to start your own business then marketing isn't worth taking because you actually have to experience and go through the problems yourself to understand how everything works.

I would think not, use College as a fallback for Teaching or something stable and worthwhile that will help others. Most all marketing people I ever met were self made or just starting and I dont think it there is any College that can teach Charisma or Character, you earn those in life. I could be daft and there might be a sudden flood of job openings for Marketers, but I doubt it. Still follow whatgever dream you have, this life is a one pony ride, so make the best of it and that way you never will say if I had only done this or that. Life is meant to be lived, not regretted. |

My wife was a high paid marketer for years and enjoyed her time in industry. Now as a professor teaches e-commerce and marketing at a college and she loves this too. I was head of marketing for a transportation company for twenty years and retired now I miss those days. If you are creative and have good people skills and study and work hard - it is a great career. |

Whatever you major in, just get the degree. Many times people do not end up in the field you went to school for. A degree represents more than just knowledge in a specific subject matter, it represents hard work and determination and thats what employers are really looking for. |
