try getting an SEO toolbar from Yahoo or Firefox add ons there are plenty of them and they give you tons of info from website rankings the name of the person who owns it and how many hits it has

For your own site, take a look at your web server stats or web server logs.
For other sites, Alexa can give you some insights: http://www.alexa.com/. However, Alexa is only tracking this information from users that have downloaded the Alexa toolbar.

Best thing you can do is sign up for a free Google Analytics account. It will supply you with all the information you would ever need to track traffic on your web sites.

Statcounter is a free service that will tell you how many hits you are getting. Have a look at it and join your website to it.It provides a lot of info about the hits and where they came from.
