Country Pride | Is there anyone besides me that is sick and tired of all the commercials? |
Some programs consist of up to twenty minutes per hour of commercial time. That is going to extremes to me. |

Commercials are what pay for "free" television programs, on both broadcast TV and "basic cable" channels. Without the commercials, you wouldn't get the programs.
As suggested, you can join the legions of families (like ours) that use Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) to record broadcast TV and then fast-forward through the commercial breaks. But already, stations are varying the commercial breaks so that it's harder to time the fast-forwarding, and often we must rewind; some commercials are also designed to appear similar to the programs they accompany, thus tricking us into watching parts of the commercial.
Bottom line: Those of us with DVR are getting a "better deal" because we're fast-forwarding past the commercials that pay for our programs; but as we do so, we just create incentives for new commercial opportunities, including more product placements within programs, "ticker commercials," and worse.
I rebelled at TV commercials shown during movies -- hey, I paid $11 to see this movie, and I tolerate and sometimes even enjoy the movie previews -- but my bladder and my brain and I are not going to sit through an extra 10 minutes of commercials! And the theatres gave up those commercials (mostly).
But for broadcast and basic cable, if you cut out the ads, then you need to find another way to pay for the programs. The new "a la carte" cable channels may be the wave of the future. Or we may lose a bunch of those shows. |

Cable should set up a channel just for commercials and nothing else. If someone CHOOSES to tune-in; it's up to them. There is very little programming on the air now. It's all about "buy this. try that" |

I admit that some ad can be entertaining, but after watching the same ad for 5 times during one hour show, you can get pretty annoyed. But what can you do about it if you are watching something live? I no longer watch my favorite show live anymore, most of the time I use DVR and then fast forward all the commercials ... |

That's why I pay for HBO - no commercials. If you don't like commercials then you have to pay for TV. Sometimes I even like commercials, like the Super Bowl ads. |

Unfortunately, we live in a consumer driven society and are led around by said commercials. Sad but true. I am highly irritated when I go to the movies or even on a DVD for crying out loud, and am inundated by commercials!
I specifically won't by from those ads that I see there.
That's my way of dealing with them. |

I’m don’t like most of the commercials too. I hate most the stupid ones and that ones that are not targeting me (I am not among their target audience but that is inevitable especially if the TV station is covering wide audience). If I have watched stupid or irritating commercial I never buy the product itself. They said that there is no such thing as bad commercial but I think that this statement is no longer valid nowadays. Actually I don’t even watch TV very often I find it pointless and not entertaining at all. I am using Internet to gather the entire daily info that I need. Actually from my point of view the worst thing about stupid commercial is not that they just lost your time but that you have to pay for them big time. The commercials are included into the price of the product which is especially obvious in the branded products. Sometimes for certain people it could be worthy it depend of your personality after all, because the brand could transfer part of its image to your mentality, but that is not the case for all of the daily used goods. This topic is very wide and I can write all day without been able to cover even a small part of its features.
My point is if you want to fight with the stupid commercials (because most of them do not generate add value to the brand they just make it more expensive to the customers) just buy the cheapest product of course if there isn’t significant difference in the quality and unless you haven’t watched a stupid commercial about it :) |

Ads are what make the TV stations money.....without them they would be able to make the shows we love.... |

Commercials are better than most of the shows. Also, shows are made from the media sold.
The fewer ad dollars thrown at time slots, you'll see lower-budget, less well-scripted shows.
The boom of reality tv is part of that downfall of regular shows. |
