When you create something it is AUTOMATICALLY copyrighted. That's why it can't look like someone else's logo or ad...it could be considered infringement. |

There is no obligation to register a logo.
The UK and most many other juristictions you automatically have some protection against misuse of a logo if you have been using it as a trademark and built up some goodwill and reputation. However proving your right to a trademark and defending againt misuse can be difficult and costly.
For increased protection you could register your logo as a trademark. In the UK you can register words or images as a tradement for a £200 fee by submitting Form TM3 to the UK Intelectual Property Office. To protect a tradement in the USA you can apply to the United State Patent and Trademark Office. Most countries have similar registration processes and authorities. |

No it does not have to be registered, it's a copyright.
However you should take steps to ensure your logo is protected so that should you have problems in the future with someone nicking it, check out the info here:

if you produce a logo in public yes,if on the internet no,however the company or person who is originally made the logo does'nt want you to use his or her logo,they can have it removed from your site. |
