Green is considered to be the most soothing, yet invigorating color, and can be used in different shades, rather than being used with other colors. Just look around you at Yahoo answers!!!
Green also works well with tan and cream when you're talking about money, but can seem kind of snobby or deceitful.
The colors need to match the overall theme of your ad
Pink/white for babies, female products, etc.
Gray/black, Blue/Black-technology
White/Blue/Green for gardening, landscaping, etc.
Orange/white for construction, engineering, etc.
Browse some ads and see what makes you feel the most comforable with the ad, color wise. Don't forget to put things like shadows under your shapes, and use lines and curves that break up the monotony of the page. |

Try to use contrasting colors, but not behind text unless using black and white. Try to make your shapes easy to identify, and those are great when they are contrasting colors. Don't fill the page with to much, the message will get lost and be aware of what the negative (empty space) looks like, (I suggest looking at an almost done sample from far away) |
