Hey if that is your passion, go for it!
You will find something, believe me. Marketing is an open career. You can do a lot with it, and philosophy.... well, It shows that you worked hard for something you are passionated about. I mean, I'm guessing that is why you picked philosophy as a minor. I'm doing the same, I'm taking it cause I just love it! Taking something you truly love and doing something with it says a lot about the person. So congratulations for being so determined! :) |

The way I see it, a college degree basically tells an employer two things:
First is your area of study or expertise. That's obviously important. If you are pursuing a career in marketing, then a prospective employer will want to see that you have a background in that particular area.
Secondly, a college degree also tells a prospective employer that your have the wherewithal and drive with which to actually complete a college education. That's also very important.
What is less important, I believe, is which field you received your Minor in. I don't think it will hurt your chances of finding a job, but it may be a huge boon to your success either. it depends on whether or not you can find an application for it in the real world.
My Major was Speech Communication with a minor in Television. Today, I am working in Marketing/Advertising. As I look back on my college education, it was purely preparation. College taught me to study and nourished my hunger to learn. Both are very important in the field of marketing. |

First, congratulations on your hard work and effort.
Second, marketing is my profession so I can partially understand the confusion between how those two degrees don't necessarily "sync" together.
However, they don't need to. They're your interest and perhaps with a philosophy degree you'll understand a different light of marketing that other marketers would, which is great and innvovative. And that's what everyone looks for! Something new and fresh.

Hi,
I have a lot of experience marketing small companies online (I have 3 companies). One of the best ways is to sign up at business directories and protals. These are basically listings of businesses (simliar to the phone book). The advantage is that these portals usually get a lot of traffic and they're ranked high on Google because of all the quality links they contain.
My favorite portal is called Directory Exclusive. I signed up a few weeks ago because they're giving a away a free business card holder when a person enter's their company info. I received it in the mail 3 days ago =)

That is not strange at all! Next May I'll have my Bachelor's in Marketing and minor in Psychology and have recently been thinking about a minor in philosophy. I really don't know what you'd do with any sort of degree in philosophy, but I just find philosophy interesting.
Walk away or ignore anyone that gives you grief about it! At least you're getting a degree and educating yourself. |
