Marketing is a tool that will help you reach your business goals.
Let's say you run a business that sales umbrellas. You've done a cost analysis and have determined that you will need to sell 200 umbrellas to turn a profit. How will you do this? This is where marketing steps in.
Identify your business goals. You want to increase awareness and drive the sales of your 200 umbrella's 100% in the first year.
1. Increase awareness: You may place an ad about your store in a local newspaper or magazine. You may have someone to do a write up in a local mag/newspaper about your speciality umbrella shop. You may create little tri-fold cards at a hair salon that you have a relationship with. You need people to know your company exists!
2. Drive sales: Perhaps you place a 15% off coupon in your ads in those local newspapers or magazines.
These are just basic examples, but marketing is the entity that would come up with these two ways to execute a basic strategies to get your product out of the door. There are many more, but this is the simplest examples. |

stay away from newspapers, they are disposable forms of advertising. when people are ready to buy, the go to yellow pages. I would say form a budget and weather 1,2,or 3 phonebooks go for all of them. also look at internet a website thats the next most successful form of promoting a business.
