Harry T | My new business - a McDonalds / Burger King combined restaurant!!! Anyone know where to buy their huge outdoor |
Over the years, I’ve heard hundreds (if not thousands) of people state they like Burger King hamburgs but don’t like their fries. They further state their desire for Burger King hamburgers with McDonalds fries. However, your average person is not going to travel to both restaurants and wait for each item as the other gets cold. This is where my ingenious idea comes to play. I will reconstruct my kitchen room & dining room into restaurant fully equipped with tables, stools & chairs. I’m going to hire 2 teenagers that will travel to McDonalds for fries & Burger King for Burgers every half hour. This brings the 2 products to the customer – nicely, quickly & hot!!!! What I need at this point is information where to buy the large McDonald and Burger King signs they have outside their restaurants to put outside my house. Where do I get them? |

There are about fifty reasons why you cannot do this. For starters -
1. There's an enormous conflict of interest between two competitors.
2. Unless you're an authorized franchisee, meeting and adhering to both company's quality standards they will sue you in a heartbeat for trying to resell their food.
3. You cannot run a restaurant business out of your home because of zoning regulations.
4. Your local health department would shut you down in three minutes.
5. The food would get cold, or at least soggy by the time it gets to your customers.
6. You can never, ever make money - buying precooked products at full retail price, paying tax and the delivery (gas, etc) charges. Not to mention the cleaning costs to keep your home/fast food joint a place people would actually want to eat. And I haven't even mentioned the reconstruction costs on your home. How much of this food would you have to resell in order just to recoup THAT investment?
7. Do you really think people will pay 10% or more on top of retail prices for the minor convenience you offer? I doubt it. |

You may also want to check to see if using signage from McDonalds and Burger King to advertise your own business violates their trademarks. You idea is very clever, but if McDonalds and Burger King do not like you using their signs and logos they may pursue some form of restitution.
You may want to call around to different sign makers in your area to see if they do work for the local McDonald's and Burger King franchises. You could also contact both McDonald's and Burger King and feign interest in becoming a franchisee. When they send you information about how to open one of their restaurants they may include information on how to obtain things like signage. Good luck! |

Nice Idea. All of these people are right in most cases. Here is what you CAN do though, but it is not really an original idea.
You can open a food delivery service. There is no real reason you HAVE to have more than two restaurants in your service, but you will have to take a few things into consideration. You MUST have permission from the restaurant to advertise your service using their logo and menu, and oh, yeah, you have to pay a pretty high insurance rate for those teenagers you want to hire to do the driving.
We have had a few companies aroudn here that triede this service. they had over 30 local restaurants. They would fax over thier orders and time for pick-up. For quickness, they had credit accounts at all of these restaurants to pay at the end of the month so that all the drivers had to do was run in and pick up the order for delivery. all orders were paid in cash upon delivery and had a credit card on file before placing the order. They called themselves "Tasty Taxi"
But I'm sure McDonalds would let you put one of their signs in your yard if you made the hundred's of thousands of $'s for a franchise fee. If you do that, then you have rights to use the logo and signage. (with corporate permission, of course) |

#1 WHAT STATE DO YOU LIVE IN?? You can not adverise a business from your home unless the operation is at your home. #2 what are you thinking, using another company's product at your business? What if someone claims that the fries made them sick, the grease was old?? #3 are you aware that you are liabile for your employees traveling from one point to the other? Are you going to pay them mileage? In their job describtion does it state that they will not be paid for mileage? If they are in a car accident your company will become part of the law suit. I think that you could come up with something different. I went to restrauant in Asheville North Carolina and Texas (a new chain), they had these french fries that are made with a apple peeler machine. You can come up with something like that, and people will come. Good luck with your new business . |

Neither McD's or Burger King will allow you to operate the business as you described. They have teams of lawyers and invetigators to insure that no one re-sells or uses their products without prior permission. And they are adimate about protecting their turf. Good try though. |
