Need Help Naming an Estate Sale Service?
We sell vintage jewelry and collectibles online and often go to estate sales, etc. in the Bay Area. However, we recently moved to the valley and have found that estate sales are almost non-existent. The few we have been to have been run poorly, the places trashed by customers and the dismayed family members watching in horror. I got the idea that perhaps my hubby and I would start an Estate Sale biz that was a full service, in other words meet carefully and respectfully with family of deceased member or someone that went to a nursing home; handle everything from organizing whatever is left after they take what heirlooms they want; pricing, advertising, dealer previews, cleanup and haul off, donation of leftovers etc. The last thing a family needs to deal with is all the stuff but they don't want to see people rummaging through it and disrespecting the property etc. I would like a name that is respectful and sounds like their items will be treated w/ dignity.
Additional Details
Thanks Everyone! Great answers! I was thinking along the "dignity" lines myself so am seriously considering Dignified Dis. We already have biz co with our letters which would be the dba GTA Enterprises. I agree that it is a horrible enough experience without someone throwing your family's items to the wind, disrespecting the property and driven with greed instead of respect. Thanks all!

Whatever you end up calling it, and if and when you decide to advertise, make sure you put the basic message of your question in that advertising. I've seen enough estate sales to know that someone that is geared towards compassion, rather than quck sales, would end up making much more money in the long run. Your reputation will be your greatest asset.

Cherished Heritage Estate Service, or Heritage Estates, Jewel Estate Service maybe. Something that sounds both respectful and acknowledges the family member's attitude toward their loved one's things. I've seen horrible ones like Finders Keepers Estates or (no joke) Everything Must Go. You could also try a combination of you and your husband's names, mix up the letters and make just a new "name" out of it. Or, if those names sound too stiff, something that has the word "Angel" in it perhaps. Hope those put you on the right road.

Just a few thoughts. I hope you have great success because it is a great idea. If you need a logo I do graphics. I'll put my latest on my page.

The naming of your business could be one of the most important decisions you will make. A name's originality and legal availability will create a real asset value of its own, as it becomes marketed and gains market acceptance.

The name you choose will become the focal point of all the benefits and features that relate to your business. Customers will be able to find and refer others to it in the future.

Since any names that are suggested here may already be owned by another party, I wanted to go a different route...

I suggest either hiring a name creation firm or get together with your friends and/or family and throw a "name party" & have everyone bounce some ideas around. Compile a listing of names that you like the best. Once you have that list, do as much free research as you can before you delve into comprehensive research.

I listed some links where you can do some preliminary name checking. However, please be aware that this is merely scratching the surface of what's out there. Only comprehensive research will tell you if the name is truly available. But, these links are free & a great place to start, so I'd try them out first.

There are other sites that offer free searching capabilities in conjunction with their commercial services, so I'm not able to post those links due to the Yahoo! TOS. You'll also want to check domain names & yellow pages, so simply do a search for "free domain name search" and "national yellowpages" and the appropriate links will pop up.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Possibly use your last name for the name then create a slogan showing that you are a family business helping out families. When creating your signs and advertisements use quality paper, images, fonts, etc. showing that you have respect for your own and that you appear more real. Also using soft colors and images that focus on items you may use will help make it more approachable.

Okay it might be too hokey but what about "Grandma's Attic Estate Sales" or "Treasured Memories Estate Sales"
Either gives the connotation that you respect those you are in business for and still give a clear idea of what you do.

"Oldies But Goodies" or "Time-Honored Estate Services" or "Heirloom Estate Services"
