First, a definition of what a "Gap Card" is might help.
For instance, if by this you are refering to a Gap Credit Card (store-specific credit card), then you can use a method employed by many stores, such as offering initial purchase discounts with a filled out credit application form.
Asking at the register with this benefit/offer to the customer gives an extra incentive; i.e. instant value!
This standardizes the process, making sure every customer that makes a purchase is either asked, or verified to already have an account with the store. :)
There are, of course, other variations on this tactic, such as offering free materials or products, too.
Now this only addresses one aspect of your situation: simplifying the process to make it EASY for your team to perform. The easier it is to do, the easier it is to ask. :)
As far as motivation goes, here are a few more ideas:
Create a small (and friendly) competition - include a reward that is commensurate to the task at hand, such as giving someone extra flexibility for a week of their schedule, or a small cash bonus, or even a sample of the store product (perhaps a gift card to the store).
Start a rewards program - give EVERYONE that produces X amount of applications from customers some form of reward (such as, or similar to, those mentioned above).
By making it easy (or easier), and making it fun and rewarding you will have an easier time of getting your team to perform in the way you need them to.
One last thing: TALK to your team members and ask THEM for ideas! They may surprise you, or at the very least inspire you somehow.

First of all, you got to learn about all the benefits which the customers can avail upon signing for the offer. Do make a point to HIGHLIGHT those benefits to the customers at a proper time.
Do dress neatly and welcome guests with a smile. Take time to listen to them and then speak accordingly. These are some of the traits which will keep the customer listening to you and then agree to your offer. Good Luck.. |
