I recently created a new website, www.dear-mommy.com
I am new to this, and I am not sure what the best way to get my site out there for others to use.
I am not selling anything, it is a community website.

Hi,
Your best bet would be the searchengines and then especially pay per click like Yahoo search marketing and Google adwords. For pennies a click you get very targetted people who are interested in what you have to offer.
In order to be successfull with this use keywords that are as specific as possible to what you are promoting.
Also a great traffic source are forums and blogs. But do not make the mistake of just randomly posting ads on forums. Thats called spamming and it aint the way to do business. You need to actively and genuinly particpate to help people. Look at the bottom of this post of me, you will see whats called a signature. A little piece of text that tells the people who you are and about your website (if you have any, which you should if you are serious about internet marketing).
This way you promote your website but you do not spam :-)
Ezines are also a great targetted source of traffic if you know how to do it right. Never go for the free ad in an ezine. Nearly nobody reads those. Always go for the solo ad and if you cannot yet afford that then go for the top sponsor ad. A top sponsor ad appears at the very top of the newsletter and will certainly be read by most people giving you good exposure. Remember to choose ezines that again are targetted at what you are promoting.
These 3 methods are the most powerfull.

What a beautiful site! Great job. So moving, and beautifully done! I am so sorry for your loss, but what a great way to "deal" with it. I think you should be able to post information/links about your site in various grief support groups and boards online. I did a general search and found several. I would think any of these would welcome your site with open arms!
I really hope your site gets to all those who need help in losing a parent. I will personally email your website address to my friends and groups I belong to.
What an inspiration! God can really use you to reach a lot a people!

I always suggest the same answer to queries like yours: create compelling content, build inbound links to that content, repeat! And if that means writing articles then fine.
A couple of specific methods that might help you:
* Instead of asking questions on Yahoo! Answers, why not answer them - anything to do with your site will help (as I do in this answer! Ahem.)
* Create a YouTube vidoe about your site or Mommys, in particular - something outrageous or funny or both

One really great and fast way to get your site out there for others to use is article marketing! Write articles about the issues you address on your site. At the bottom of the article, there's a place for you to add your name and web site url. Other websites will pick up your article and place it on their site or in their newsletters. They are required to leave your "bio" at the end of the article and if people who read it are interested, they will click on your url to check your site out ! My favorite is http://www.ezinearticles.com but there are plenty of others...do a search for "article marketing".
