Some do, some don't, like any other type of company. I work for two of them because the products they have interested me. They're good and fit with my philosophy of life. The fact of being a pyramid company as no bearing on the products.

On the other hand, if you are thinking of joining one, there is way more to check out than the products. If that is the case, you are welcome to contact me by e-mail and I'll answer that side of the problem.

Don't feel like spending time answering that if you are not interested.

Some people seem to be very confused by the terms they use such as MLM and pyramid which are the same thing. Now, a scam is a scam and plenty of MLM/pyramids are scams but not all. And mentioning AMWAY as an example of a good company is kinda funny since they're the ones responsible for pyramid companies being illegal in France. Even here, the people I know working in MLM/ pyramid companies don't think much of AMWAY. It's usually the first one we mention as an example of scamming companies.

You need to understand something very important: pyramid schemes are illegal in most countries. They are also usually simmilar to the so called Ponzi Schemes and the base for that concept is that there is no product to sell, you only make money from introducing other people in the company that will then have to introduce some more people to get paid, with no benefit for it. Network marketing or MLM on the other hand does have a product, or range of products (Herbalife sells vitamins and suplements, Amway sells pretty much anuthing you can think of SU is NIghtingale Connant turned interactive and Tiscali provides internet, that last example being a massive boost for the model as it has given credibility to a much maligned industry). A few things that will point you to the right ones are:
- If you can join a company and obtain a benefit, not necessarily financial, from your association with them.
- If tapping the financial side of the program you can potentially get better financial rewards than your upline. If and when that is the case, you probably are looking in the right place.
-etc
You will always here people saying " but the person at the top makes the most money so it is a pyramid". My answer to that is if you create a business from scratch and out of all your organization you are not the person earning the most, you mght be doing something wrong (THAT IS NOT AN ABSOLUTE TRUTH, there are cases where that could happen, but it doesn't strike me as the norm). Big international corporations, branch out ito national ones, that can than have regional ones and so on, that is also a pyramidal structure but is not seen as a pyramid scheme. I'd extend some more but i think you get the idea by now. Incidentally, I don't belong to any network marketing company but I do business studies and analyze different business models all the time ( totally enthralled learning now how internet affiliate marketing works). Hope it helps

If their products were any good they would not have to sell them using the pyramid system, If you don't mind conning people then this is the perfect business for you.

No they are not because pyramid companies do not provide a product or service and by definition, are illegal. Here is some of the information that I found from Wikipedia:

A pyramid scheme is a non-sustainable business model that involves the exchange of money primarily for enrolling other people into the scheme, usually without any product or service being delivered. It has been known to come under many guises.
Pyramid schemes are illegal in many countries, including the United States,[1] Great Britain, Malaysia, Norway, Australia and New Zealand. [2] These types of schemes have existed for at least a century.
There are other commercial models using cross-selling such as multi-level marketing (MLM) or party planning which are legal and sustainable, although there is a significant grey area in many cases. Most pyramid schemes take advantage of confusion between genuine businesses and complicated but convincing moneymaking scams.
The essential idea behind each scam is that the individual makes only one payment, but is promised to somehow receive exponential benefits from other people as a reward. A common example might be an offer that, for a fee, allows the victim to sell the same offer to other people, or receive bonuses through other people they refer. Each sale includes a fee to the original seller.
Clearly, the flaw is that there is no end benefit; the money simply travels up the chain, and only the originator (or at best a very few) wins in swindling his followers. Of course, the people in the worst situation are the ones at the bottom of the pyramid: those who subscribed to the plan, but were not able to recruit any followers themselves. To embellish the act, most such scams will have fake referrals, testimonials, and information.

What I like about direct sales company, MLMs and Network Marketing companies is that they often provide a product that can only be obtained through their representatives and they are not found in average stores. They also really can provide good products and/or a service that have real value for the money, e.g., The Limu Company. I have researched many direct sales companies and have decided that the Limu Company was a perfect fit for me healthwise and financially because it provides a very good product that can only be purchased from an independent distributor and that is a value for your money. Plus since I decided to become an independent distributor, I don't have to convince other to try the company which if someone was trying to get me to just give them my money with the hopes of getting more money, all the convincing in the world wouldn't work.

Hope that answers your question - if you need more information, please do not hesitate to check out to contact me.

Not that I've ever seen. If they were any good they'd be distributing to the shops. Why do you think pyramids are illegal? Even the "legit" ones are cruddy.

Of course they are, where else would the gullible spend their money.

StanTheMan
Your very typical legal pyramid is any government structure or any large corporation, where you start at the very bottom hoping to work yourself up the corporate ladder only to discover yourself being broke at the age of 55 flipping burgers at your friendly fast food joint. Typical results of legal pyramid.

As for distribution of product or services many well known companies use Network Marketing (NM), which is very often confused with pyramid scheme. Just to name a few:

Gillette, AT&T, Microsoft, Colgate, Allianz, Citibank, MCI, , Toyota, Xerox, Texas Instruments, General Motors, American Skandia, AOL, General Electric, Netscape, Oracle, Royal Bank of Canada, IBM, Sun Microsystems, Skytel, Pacific Life.

All of the above companies use NM to distribute all or some of their products or services, the reason being is not that their product would be inferior but because NM is the fastest and the most effective way to target your market providing specific product/service many a time tailor made to your customer.

Ignorance is a bliss for some people, (john, anna & sailor) are very fast on writing, slow on thinking.
