You need to get backlinks from related/quality websites that contain your terms. These backlinks should have your keywords in the anchor text. This can be very hard to achieve because you will need thousands of these for competitive keywords and a lot of patience. It can take up to a year to get decent results for competitive keywords. There are also onpage optimisation. Use h1 tags for titles containing your keyword. Make sure your keyword density is around 3-5%. Use strong tags to bold your keywords.
Basically SEO takes years to learn. This is just a quick outline of the things you might want to do.

The fundamentals of search engine optimization (SEO) are content, code and credibility. Your site content must be keyword-relevant, code must be short and spider-friendly and your site has to have quality inbound links, as well as a credible domain history (how long has it been live and when does it expire?) to work your way to the top of search engines. As already mentioned, backlinks play an important role in improving your listings in the search engines. Consider a membership at either Linktator2 or 3WayLinks to get backlinks distributed to your site over time.

Try Google AdWords (pay-per-click). You can enter in certain keywords and pay each time someone clicks on your site. The more you want to spend on each click, the higher your page ranking will be.
You can also implement a few other SEO tricks such as using your keywords on the pages of your Web sites and customizing your META tags within your code to reflect your keywords.
It is important when desiging your Web site to think with the search engines in mind. The more people or credible places you have linking to your site, the more times you use keywords, and the more your content reflects your keywords, the better you site will rank in the search engines.
I recommend Google as a first place to start since it is the most popular search engine.
Pick up a copy of Search Engine Optimization for Dummies. It is a very easy read and breaks SEO down for the average Joe. |
