Have you developed your talent? Do you write or sing? If you don't write, you'll need to have someone write some songs for you, and record a decent demo. With that in hand, you'll need an agent. The only way to get the demo or agent is money - getting into the music business requires alot of money upfront, and that's the truth of it.
As far as finding the right agent, you should look for the people whose music you admire or emulate, and approach their representation. Don't ever sign with someone who can't give you solid success stories that you can check up on. There are way too many people in the business who talk big, but do nothing. |

Go to the best record companies, Warners, Sony, etc., start at the very bottom, even if it's as an intern for no pay. Learn as much as you can, get to know everyone from top to bottom, make yourself useful and work your way up. As you are going, start letting people know that you are a musician (don't do this too soon). Start giving them demos and having them come to performances. Something will break fast if you have any talent at all. But you have to be at a big, legit company, and you have to start at the bottom for anyone to take you seriously. |

k well first you need to know how you wnna get in. song writer can you play an instruent do you wanna do both do you wanna rap there bunch of options and combinations. than i would suggest studing and i dont mean listening to songs but like studying bands that inpire you learn what there lyrics are about what they try to say in there songs. you will also need to have some knowledge of music, ive always thought of minor chords as sad and major chords as hope/happiness. so after you understand your **** well, it revolves around who you know and how much money you/ or who you know has. playing giggs locally or just raising reputation would be also pretty key but will probalby of already been done. i guess finally is you need to write **** that other people will wanna listen to especially if yo wanna be main stream. |

Target your music toward your local age group. While I'm inclined to go with another contributors advice to find a music producer & have sex with them it will not secure your goals. In fact it will cause more detriment to them. Cut a decent promo CD, research the local radio stations that cater to the "new artist", submit your work & wait for the feedback. Self-promo your work, but without the hype. Your work will gather the energy & support of those who like what you give them. And through them, the success you seek will come about. Most importantly, do not forget these people. They are the ones who make or break you. That is the recipe for success. Forget the age thing as well. If it's meant to be for you, it will come when the time is right. If your first love is music then neither age nor fame really matters much. It's all in the sharing & being surrounded by others who appreciate it. It's a tough business to be in. Are you ready for that? The dedication to it, despite whatever ridicule may cause you to falter? Do you have the strength to let it shine forth regardless? And to go with the flow. I've seen so many musicians, be they vocalists or instrumentalists, struggle for many years before recognition comes about. Most of them long past the time they projected for themselves. They've been construction workers, garbage collectors, insurance agents & everything inbetween, but ... music never left them. You'll find out for yourself if music really is your first love. Or whether fame & recognition is. |

Exposure and originality - you need to be able to write your own songs - if you can do that, get it copyrighted (simple and not costly) and get into a recording studio to record your demo. Find local talent agencies near you and talk to them - they will give you an agent to work with. Good luck! Whatever you do, BE careful about signing anything -you are 17 - not "legal." Make sure you have an adult (preferably a parent) with you on interviews or potential deals - even at the studio. Best of luck to you! |

Nowadays most people with access to the internet go on myspace create a website and display their songs in hopes of being discovered online. Then there's the Country Fairs that hold talent contests you could try there to make it into the industry that way. Since you live in Atlanta maybe start from the bottom at a radio station or a record company working as a secretary or a courier and learn from the people about the business.
Hope this helps and good luck. |
